I would like, if possible, for the people that vote yes to let me know how this is a good deal. Thank you.

It’s not as bad as people think . Scandella got 3,25m$*4year. I think Edmundson is better .

I recall a few months ago quite a controversy here on CapFriendly over whether Boston's John Moore was worth a fifth, or entirely worthless. Were you in on that? Just curious.

He won’t be as bad as Alzner, and his contract isn’t as bad. He’s a 3rd pairing defenseman, so at least he’s an NHLer. It’s a bad contract that makes things a bit tighter, but at least we aren’t paying a below average AHLer $4.6 million.

That's what people said of Chiarot last year.

Now he is on the first pair. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Minutes don't mean crap when all numbers show that he's below replacement level.

I probably made some comments, can't remember it's been months and I comment on literally every Bruins post so
With some luck, we could move him for a 6th/7th but 95% chances we need to add something to get rid of his contract

I never said anything about minutes. I’m just saying that he makes less money, and that Alzner is so bad that he can’t possibly be as bad/worse than Alzner.

Well 3 different GMs signed him for $3M+ contracts.

Obviously there's more than advanced stats.

Tall, big, mobile, scoring touch, PK specialist, adequate Plus/minus, can take high TOI, lots of playoff experience, starting his prime.

Not sure. I’m guessing it was that silk weirdo. My stance has always been i don’t think he would take much, if anything to move. I dont’ think those that say he’s not an NHL d man are remotely correct, and have always said he’s stuck on the left side of a ridiculously deep left side. I think he’s a Moore + 6th for a 7th kinda guy.

So the question is, will he or Marco Scandella end up being the better contracts?

If Scandella didn’t re-sign in STL, I’m betting that the habs sign him to this contract instead of Edmundson.

No idea what Montreal is thinking here
Edmundson is 3rd pair, anything more than 2 million for that role is just not smart.

Chiarot and Edmundson should not be compared, ever!
Chiarot is defensively good.
Edmundson is just bad.

First off, as expected it is an overpay. A good number would have been $2,850,000, but it isn't close to or over $4,000,000. I expected him to come in the 3.5-4.5 range, so this is a very good outcome Cap-wise.

Not a Habs fan, but if the D-scheme in MTL is zone, he will be decent, but if it is man-to-man, you are hooped.

Alzner makes over a million more than Edmundson and they don't play similar games

But they end up with similar results, wonder why?

It's almost like this league is full of bad GMs because it's extremely antiquated, with organizational "inbreeding" and nepotism being extremely common. Also, +/- is useless, so that's out of the window, TOI doesn't matter when he's using it horrificly, as for "scoring touch" his career high for points is 20. He's just not good and terrible analytically to boot.

Tall and big? Okay, Myers, Ristolainen, Ericsson are big. Are they good?
Scoring touch? Around 18 pts/poor offensively
+/- is a flawed stat
TOI? That's only quantity. How good is the quality tho

No! This was supposed to be a stopgap! Why are we wasting money on a guy who is worse than Cale Fleury? We don’t need depth D right now, we need elite wingers. Why are we wasting cap Bergevin

Evolving-Hockey had him at 4.2m for a 4 years deal. So there's that at least

I can live with the 3.5m AAV. About the term, I think Bergevin thinks there's some untapped potential in the player who's just 27. Will he really enter a "prime"? Will it be a good contrat once he hits his two last years?

That's possible even if it's reasonable to doubt. I give the benefit of the doubt to Bergevin who had good evaluation for Chiarot (playing better than what he was expected). Advanced stats werent really good for Chiarot either, but Edmundson' ones are worst...

I don't like this trade and signing at all. I thought MB was gonna use his cap space to go after a top 6 scoring Winger? What about Taylor Hall?

is he worth more than a 5th? yes. is this good contract? umm no, you hope he is a 30 point scoring D with 100 block shot and a +10 TK/GV player the next few seasons

That's a lot of money tied up in LHD for a team that still has a weak left side.

I think anything over $2M for a D that is only useful in very specific situations is an overpay, and I'm not really sure why you would want to commit more than 2-3 years to a 3rd pair guy. That's a part of your line up that you would ideally like to be able to easily change if it doesn't work out. With 4 years at over $3M, you can't afford for this not to work.

MB has pulled eyebrow raising moves before, and so far only one has clearly backfired (Alzner). I wouldn't lose too much sleep on it.
