Spreading The Krug Money Around

Description
As much as people like to say that the Bruins don't have the money for Torey Krug, they actually do. They're just choosing not to spend it all on him. I also don't see another LD on the open market to spend all that money on other than Pietrangelo, who really is too expensive. So, if Krug is heading elsewhere, the team needs to make the most of the money that otherwise would have gone to him by adding players in trades and free agency that improve the team all-around, including overhauling the left side of the defense and adding another legitimate scoring threat.

McCabe is a great value who can play big minutes without becoming a liability. He's also on an expiring contract. If he works out, extend him. If not, let him walk. He's certainly not going to re-sign in Buffalo, so they can move on from him and bring in a vet in Moore to replace him and add a young roster forward and another young asset with the draft pick. I personally like Moore, but he's never going to be a starter under Cassidy and is a waste of cap space. Kuhlman is a solid, young bottom-six forward but doesn't have a clear role. Bjork's three-year extension tells me that the team values him as a bottom-six depth guy more than Kuhlman.

Gustafsson is your new LD2 with the defensively stable Carlo and a PP QB for the top unit. I don't love the AAV, but I think that's what it takes to sign him. And they do need him. McAvoy and Grzelcyk are horribly inefficient on the PP and Grzelcyk isn't ready for a top-four role period in my opinion.

Galchenyuk is my favorite buy-low forward on the market. Young and with proven ability, Galchenyuk's drop-off in production in my opinion is a function of too high of expectations and and a lack of a consistency having moved around so much over the past few years. He needs a long-term commitment and some room to find his stride again. Even on the B's third line, Galchenyuk could end up a bargain scoring threat with Coyle and whoever ends up on the right side. I don't see how Studnicka can go back to Providence, so I think he starts on the right side this year and eventually transitions to center a la Bergeron. With that said, he would have to go to Providence on paper pretty frequently in this scenario to save up as much cap room as possible.

The cap and roster crunch forces Lindholm down to Providence. Assuming he clears, you still have a solid fourth-line option if there's a bottom-six injury. Frederic and a healthy Senyshyn are also solid call-up options. On defense, the team remains super deep with Clifton and Lauzon as extra men, vets Kevan Miller (hopeful for this comeback story) and Kampfer and Vaakanainen and Zboril in Providence.

We are sparse at NHL ready LHD so doubt McCabe is going anywhere. If you want him though, fair value would be Bjork and maybe a 3rd

If you’re gonna sign Gally (which im 50/50 on, I think the skill is there but 4 teams since coming in the league is a little worrisome) you might as well deal Bjork for a LHD, maybe the deal mentioned above... cause he’s not really a fit on the 4th line and has value on the trade market... but it’s an idea I haven’t seen explored on here, so thanks!

MY EYES! What have you done to my beloved team?

Boy, where to start. Let’s start with the contracts that just should not be given in any capacity:
1. Brett Ritchie (not even in the AHL)
2. Miller (he’s done)
3. Gustafsson (at that price tag, just go for krug or go in house)
4. Galchenyuk (50/50 he would wind up bought out of that contract) If he’s a 1 year 1.25 million type, sure.

Give some more money to Grzelcyk, get Bjork out of the healthy scratch category for god sakes. At least you have the goaltending right.

Was this serious? Did you pick the worst UFAs to sign deliberately to start a comment war? Holy jesus. Lol.

Chuky’s downfall was booze and his father.

Brett Ritchie and Kevan Miller not staying and Galchenyuk not coming to Boston. No need to trade for MaCabe with Lauzon/Zboril/Vaakanainen.
