Swapping picks with Minnesota

Description
The Staal trade and the Brodin signing are all signs that Minnesota won´t start a retool or rebuild soon. But they need some quality guys to pair with Kaprizov rather sooner than later.
After trading away Staal Minnesota has a even bigger hole on their center position (Johansson is not a good replacement for Staal). The Center UFA market will be very thin this year. They could go the offersheet route but its risky because they aren´t a real playoff team.
Maybe they have interst in Strome as a replacement. They would have to trade down 13 spots which is a lot, but they are also getting back depth and immediate roster help.
As I said before, it seems like Minnesota isn´t thinking about a retool, so they probably wont be so keen to keep their own 1st rounder.

I like the idea. It’s a long way to jump in 1st round in this years draft and would cost about two 2nds and one 3rd. What about something like this:

NYR gives: Chytil + 1st + 2nd
MIN gives: Bjugstad + 1st

TBH I can´t see the rangers trading Chytil. Its not like he is so extremly valuable that you would never trade him but I belive they really like him and believe that he will become a very good Top 6 player. If they trade a center this offseason it would be Strome IMO

I think you’re right. I also think the Chytil deal would be close but it would be dependent on Parise or Zuccarello moving. And can you tell me why Strome is being shopped as a 2C yet the Rangers are looking for one as well? That really brings his value down imo.

I saw the caption, got excited assuming this was a trade for Lafreniere and was disappointed in the end grin

Strome is already 27 and is not really a player in the long term plan of the Rangers. With Mika also 27 our Top 6 centers would be way older than the future blue line and the wingers. We really need somebody who is young and can be a very solid 2nd or even 1st line center. Cirelli would be such a guy (And obviously Strome is worse than Cirelli). Unfortunately there is no guarantee that Chytil really becomes that 2nd line center.

It’s simply for long term purposes the rangers prob would be fine with getting a one or two year deal out of him but we’re looking for someone that fill the role for years to come. I’m personally not a fan of trading this much for cirelli not that I think he’s a bad player I just don’t think he’s worth 6.5-7 mil, I know the rangers need a (defensive) forward but I just don’t think you trade that much in this case that’s the same reason I don’t love going after danault either (also bc he’s older and gonna be a ufa) but we should either be going after trading up in the draft and drafting someone like lundell or trying to make a center trade that’s not a complete overpay
