Certainly cap doesn't work as posted. No way the Leafs sign Tanev for 5m and give away the dependable Holl for 2m.

We wont sign Tanev for 5 mill and hes also injury prone.

Why does the cap not work? Holl was nice and dependable alongside a fantastic defenceman. Not so nice and dependable when Muzzin was injured.

If Tanev gets injured for playing physical and blocking shots I am completely fine with that. Playing that style of hockey comes with injuries. Tanev is a player that when he is out on the ice, you know you are getting every dollar out of him and he will get in the way of any shot and lay his body on the line to win a game.

Not sure why everyone calls Tanev physical these days. He's definitely a warrior, blocks shots like a champ, but he does not hit.

4 x $5M would blow up in the Leafs face, he's got 2 yrs max of being a Top 4 dman.

Also, leaving that little cap with a roster of 21 means 2 players have minor injuries or the flu and Leafs are playing shorthanded.

21 man rosters don't work. Holl was more dependable and just plain better than the other two RHD the Leafs had. But of course any other RHD are so much that the Leafs Dmen and the Leafs are expected to overpay for all of them.

When he is out on the ice. He often is not. And he's guaranteed to decline after having a good year this year. Don't go near him for longer than a 2-year deal. You added Demelo. He can slot with Reilly and Holl plays with Muzzin with Dermott or Lehtonen potentially taking that role if he struggles.

I think the goal for this year on D is to have options. 7-9 decent defensive options for Keefe to go through, instead of this year when they had, how playable D? 4? 5?
