Matt Dumba is just a more expensive version of Tyson Barrie. Toronto should avoid this at all costs

Dumba is, at the very least, better in his own zone than Barrie. And more importantly, is one of the few available top 4 right handed defencemen.

Disagree. He's probably better than Barrie. But the team is not better without Nylander and someone else in Dumba's spot. You lose a lot without Nylander, Dumba doesn't make up for that.

If Nylander is moving, it better be for a guy like Parayko or Ekblad. Dumba's not such a good fit.

Let's say he is better than Barrie in his own end, he is not worth Nylander and $2ish million per year more than Barrie.

Right?

If that's the defence going into next year, the problem of who's on the ice with Muzzin the last min of a 1 goal game is still not solved.

you are correct. Dumba is basically Tyson Barrie who hits more and occasionally fights thats it. He is not what the leafs need. His strength is in his offense not really in his defense as he struggles in his own end. His numbers look good but remember who he is paired with Brodin who is a very good defensive dman.

What the leafs need is a defensively minded Dman. Free agency has 3 names for that (Demelo, Hamonic, and Braun) all good in their own end and add some toughness. And wont cost Nylander to get.
