Crow declines the contract

Created by: Wadejos123
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 17, 2020
Published: Sep. 17, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hawks fans including myself haven't really thought about what could happen if Crow was to test the open market and decline the reported 1 year 3.5 million dollar offer.

Kuemper comes in as the temporariry starter because Askarov is clearly 2-3 years away from even a backup role in the NHL, and probably at least 4 years from being a starter

I think it's highly unlikely but this would be an alternative for sure.

Buffalo has no need of Shaw... As for the draft, 12th is no sure thing that Askarov will still be there but it's ahead of Carolina so that's important.

Florida is going to make any team looking to move up overpay to do so. They are more than content to select the best defenseman preferably LH that’s available.

I like it a lot. As a hawks fan too, really the only position hawks have very little prospect depth in is at goalie. That being said, I rather see a trade involving strome for one of those pics and seeing if the Hawks can have two firsts in this years draft. I would love the hawks to grab Askarov and Myska

If Crawford dosen't sign, run a garbage tandem and punt on this year. There's supposed to be a better goalie than Askarovs draft next year.

If Sanderson is gone, and he probably will be, they would be smart to move back. there is a large drop off at D after sanderson

Swapped Khudobin for Kuemper. Looks like this could be a real possibility

To me the interesting part is the goalie market as a whole. Crow's been quite vocal about not being a back up. Hes even said himself that he really doesn't like the tandem. He may have to live with that, but how many teams are out there willing to meet his ice time demands? Thats supposedly the important part to him.

Another issue is he is reportetly not happy with how large of a pay cut the hawks want him to take. I can't see any way the hawks could give him say 4.5 mil per year or even 5 mil per and 60 games. Crow just can't handle that many games with his injury history at this point in his career imo.And any more than 3.5-4 mil per year is a stretch, especially in a flat cap world. And If the hawks won't do it, I can't see any other team doing it eigther.

Not for a 2nd, rumors are that multiple teams are interested in the Cats pick so it’s going to cost more than that. Can be either picks, prospect(s), or taking a cap dump

A 2nd to move up 5 spots outside of the top 10 is a lot. I'm not sure other teams will pay more than that

And that’s fine, the Cats will just make the pick then
