Description
don't know how much stock i actually put into them...i guess it depends on which writer is actually writing for them. They claim Ovi wants 12m or "mcdavid money". Ovechkin is still elite and easily one of the best players of all time but at the age of 36 hes not worth 12 million (imo).... I hope as a leader of the team he would have enough common sense to understand that this hurts the team more than it helps... as the GM of the caps i dont see how you can logically pay him this insane price. if he was 24 sure why not but 36 years old i would love him to sign for 8mx4yrs....i would hate to do it but i would sign him for the 9.5m x4y gun to my head.

Big question is do we want to win or feed Ovechkin? my guess is he only gets that money in Russia...

I agree. 12 mill is TOO much. If he's generous enough to take a really low contract the team can get better. That's how he should look at it (if he wants another cup)

Wow.. Interesting stuff here. I can see Ovi asking for McDavid money, but I don't think him nor his agent would expect it in a flat cap. His contract is up next summer, yeah? Seems like too big of a chunk of Colorado's future, even for a perennial 40-50 goal scorer. They are one of the few teams that can handle a cap hit, though.

Other trades aren't rip offs, especially all being under contract. I think your defense looks better with Carlson & Jensen over Trouba & DeMelo.

Regardless of what happens with your team over the next 2 years, I feel it all falls on how Samsonov plays. If he can be a Carter Hart, then it works.

i mean his net worth is projected around 60 million... idk how much money you need in a life time but if he NEEDS 12million a year i hope they just let him go and use the cap for younger players

It would be a lot og fun to have Ovi and Hall for a year. I wouldn't mortgage the future for it though. Swap Helleson in for Timmins and I may be willing to go crazy though, lol.

I like Troubas game and if he can play like he did for the Jets i think him and Carlson would have a similar value...Trouba being better all around and Carlson being better offensively... Demelo is an upgrade over Jensen imo.

idk how much a team would pay for 1 year of ovechkin.. maybe remove Kaut? hes a ppg 50 goal guy wwith 50% retained

1. Ovechkin is the best goal scorer of all time. You give him what he wants. A team will pay whatever he wants on the open market.

2. Is Carlson available or is that off the top of your head or in the article?

I think it would be interesting to explore what an Ovi trade looked like. Although I doubt it would be to Col as they wouldn't be able to resign him. Maybe MTL or something

Yeah it's really impossible to value. Timmins is a really tough loss, as Colorado needs RD. Idk. It's tempting.

2)i assume he's off the table (Carlson)... hes more than likely winning the Norris but i wanted to see if the Leaf fan base would do that trade.

1) idc if Ovechkin has a blackmail sex tape of me and he can cure cancer with the touch of his finger....im not paying a 36 year old max $$$ for the worst part of his career... He should want to take a discount to break 99 record.... to break what is impossible > money

i think caps would send him there bc they would give him the best chance to win a cup. that was my thought process

we have so many good LHD and 0 RHD in the pool.... youd think we would draft more

1. He'll break it wherever he goes. And I never said it was smart of the team that gives him that contract I juse said it'll be offered to him.

2. That'd be hard to turn down. Nylander is still only 24 and was huge last year and if he can move to the middle and the Leafs can deploy that nuke 1st line more consistently that gives him major value to the Leafs. That 15th overall is huge too cause it's a super deep draft. With that said. I love Carlson, he should abolutely win the Norris and it's about time too. I love the trade and it's fair value. I'd take it if it was almost any other year. There's a lot of RHD in free agency this year and some that are available in trade that aren't as good but would fit better on the team. Carlson is an offensive threat and top PP unit guy. We have that in Rielly. I'm looking at guys like Gudas and DeMelo in Free Agency and waiting on a guy like Dumba. Leafs have a lot of work to do and giving Carlson 8 mill would cut into that immensely.

I would totally get throwing Ovi a solid like that, but it still doesn't give Col the incentive to give up a lot. You would probably need to accept moving him for a big loss if you wanted to do that for him. If you wanted that kind of return for a rental, even Ovi then you probably need to find a team where it makes more sense

Yeah but think of it like this: they gave Backstrom 9.2 per year on his new contract so there is no way in hell that Ovechkin can be paid less than him. No way. Not the captain and centerpiece of the franchise. I don't like him getting 12 million yes, as it will mess up the construction of a balanced roster that you need but at that point a 2 million dollar difference (10 or 12 mil) is us having to move out Hags or Panic or any other 2 3 million dollar player. We will have to give up a pick or prospect or both to move the salary which stinks though.

I view it like Crosby. He's making less than Malkin even though he's way better and deserves the money, he was generous and took a lower contract so that the team could use the money elsewhere. I mean Ovi deserves every penny of what he's making even if it was 11mill. He's the greatest goal scorer of all time (imo)

he's amazing but id hate to see him make a decision thats negativity effects the team that gave him 125 million dollars as a 20 year old
