I feel like if NASH was tearing it down this trade might work, however I don’t think NASH is quite there yet.

NSH is stuck in mediocre mode. They're nowhere near good enough to win the Cup, yet still good enough to be a playoff team. They also have too many vets to bail on the current core. If they did make this trade, they should probably look to trade Forsberg or Arv. and one of their top 2 C's. I say blow it up.

Not a Leafs fan, but they're all thirsty for Ekholm right now. Tried to come up with something realistic for both teams.

I see this as more of a retooling move, than a teardown for NSH. They need to get younger, and re-stock the pipeline. This accomplishes that, while freeing them from having to protect four dmen in expansion.

So our plan is to follow tampas system by having 3 elite LHD and 3 okay RD with them. Don't know how I feel about that

I'm not a Leafs fan, so I don't have a plan for them. There's just been lots of terrible Ekholm to TOR proposals lately, and I wanted to try something that might actually make some sense for NSH too. Ekholm's played well on the right side when the Preds have needed him to. Pairing him with Rielly could work.

Ekholm can play right side effectively.

That's an intriguing offer tbh. I like Liljegren, Abruzzese looks interesting. The 1st is always welcome. If Nashville was looking for a short reset, this would be something that i'd be interested in. I don't think Poile would go for it though b/c i think he's in YOLO mode trying to get a cup before he retires. I personally think we need to reset and this is a good draft to get some mid round 1sts if we can. There's some 2nd pairing LHD in free agency we could do a temporary backfill with as well.

i mean its actually not a bad plan if u think about it. If u have a strong side it can make up a weaker side. Just look at Tampa

If our left consisted of (Rielly, Muzzin, Ekholm) we could go for some cheaper RD that are good but will be even better when paired with these guys like Holl was with muzzin.

I'd want Ekholm extended if they're giving up this much.

Ekholm has two full years left on his contract. He can't be extended yet.

I get that but it's that the Leafs are giving up a ton of cheap years in this deal. The value is fine, but that's too much just for 2 years. They'd be choosing him over Rielly in this scenario

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the Leafs are giving up a ton of cheap years. Liljgren has two more years left on his current contract - the same as Ekholm. Abruzzese hasn't signed yet, and isn't guaranteed to do so with whoever holds his rights. It's a pretty basic established player for futures proposal.

Losing the years of the 15th overall pick, that's what I meant

It's a draft pick. There's no way of knowing if the player chosen with it even earns an ELC.
