Tough end to an otherwise fun playoff run and season on the whole. Good luck in the Finals Tampa, this *has* to be the year.
Edmonton trade is a little sketchy, but the way I see it is that the Islanders need some help on the power play, while the Oilers need some forward depth and some help on D. I think Mayfield would be Seattle's pick in expansion and we'd lose him for nothing. Every Islanders fan knows that the power play is our biggest issue and Chiasson could play a major role in helping it. He also won a Cup with Trotz, so there's a connection there too I guess. I don't think Bellows is a huge price to pay for Lagesson - one projects to be a top-9 forward, the other a top-6 defenseman. Both will have to be protected for expansion, so we'll see how that goes, but unless Lagesson is amazing for us, I can't imagine Seattle takes him, especially if Eberle or Bailey are made available.
The Kings trade is something an Avs fan suggested awhile back, but with Colorado instead of LA. Could be with anyone I suppose, but I want something better than a 7th or AHLer back for that package. Wilde is still projected to be a top-4 d-man I think and Komarov really isn't that bad despite what a lot of people think, just making a $1 million or so too much.
Barzal gets a 2-year bridge deal in hopes that he can cash in in 2022 when there's some more money in the league again. After Montreal's little spending spree, I really can't see an offer sheet coming, more now than before. Pulock and Toews also get about market value for their services. The one concern I have with this team is in fact on the blueline. We're going to be relying heavily on Dobson to get his feet wet in a top-4 role next year, as well as hoping that Greene/Boychuk don't implode (the latter is "insurance" in the minors). To me, trading Mayfield doesn't create a hole in the long term, but in the short term it does make things a little dicey. That said, we have to find a way to get better this offseason and with not a lot of room to work, moving a guy like Mayfield while his value is high might be one way to do that.
Idk I know a lot of Isles fans won't like that, but I'm cool with doing it if we improve in some other area (aka not for draft picks like we'll have to do with Leddy).
I feel like were overpaying in the EDM trade. Chiasson should cost no more than a 4th-5th rd pick and we can use bellows to dump another contract.
I'm an Oilers fan and I agree. Despite whatever flaws Mayfield has, he's still a complimentary #4D on a nice contract whose addition would open a number of doors for the Oilers. You can easily extort some extra value, either in the form of keeping Bellows or demanding a better prospect in return (probably as high as Samorukov) or the addition of a pick. Even after such changes, I'd accept the deal.

That works for me, not really sure what Edmonton would be willing to give up. I just really like Chiasson and have heard a lot of good things about Lagesson, so maybe I overcompensated a bit. Either way, I’d be interested in something similar to this
Mayfield has a great contract, no reason to get rid of him. They're not getting rid of Komarov, one year after signing him. They're definitely bringing back Martin (if he wants to). I hope Toews doesn't get that much.
