With what cap space? Also there is like a 90% chance Lafreniere will be a fair bit better than Marner. I would say his potential is closer to Matthews

Trade Marner and it works. Of course Rangers don't do this and neither would Leafs, too risky to trade Marner for what may never be as good as him.

It's hilarious that literally no one in hockey is calling him a generational talent but every fan says he's going to be as good as Matthews. If he becomes a 90 point player by the age of 21 he'll be as good as Marner. That isn't a small task.

I'd do it in a heart beat. Not that I think he will be better than Marner, he may not even be as good but he's going to be really good all the same

Well first Matthews is not a generational talent, he is a franchise talent. That is the expected caliber Lafreniere will reach

No he is right up there with where Kane and Ovi were in terms of wingers with very high potential

Matthews has scored more 5v5 goals than anyone since he entered the league. He's absolutely a generational talent. To say otherwise is just anti Leafs bias.

Generational Talent is someone who is game defining, as in McDavid, Crosby, Ovechkin, Lemieux, Jagr, Howe, Gretzky. Players who for a decent portion of their career are the clear best player in the league. Some players are on the verge of that level like Kane and MacKinnon but they are not quite generational talents. Matthews, Eichel, Draisaitl, Malkin, Kucherov are all top end franchise level talents. As for Lafreniere I expect him to be at worse a Kovalchuk (who was a consistent 40 goal scorer and 80+ point player with multiple 90+ seasons), and at best a Kane level player. Likely falls somewhere in the middle which is that Franchise Level talent i mentioned above.

I wouldn't trade Lafreniere str8 up for Marner but you want to add Georgiev and Adnersson as well tears of joy

marner actually had better production than kane throughout the same portion of their careers, but god forbid anyone say that, not saying marner is better or will be better than kane and/or laf

The year Marner broke out as a 90 point player they had reduced pad sizes. In Kanes 3rd season only 7 players reached the 90 point mark. In 18/19 14 players got 90+ points. There was a drastic increase in scoring.

How? A player got 125+ points for the first time in 15 years. The points leader the year before had 20 less points

The guy who is redefining 5v5 goal scoring is just a pretty good player. Definitely no bias there. Matthews could win the Rocket and the Selke in the near future and you will still say he's just a really good player not generational.

Well Leaf fans talking about the Leafs will happen always. What is really annoying to me is how many people only talk about the Leafs but hate them. There are more people who hate the Leafs and spend all their time fighting with Leaf fans than there are Leaf fans. It's more than half the reason the media goes off on them always.
