The one part that is fitting for habs in this is the fact can’t put my finger on if they are buyers or sellers.

Buyers. Like we saw with Allen and Edmundson.

Domi, Danault, Gally, Tatar and Petry are all negociating for $5.5M - $6.5M contracts and MTL wont have enough space under the cap for everyone (3 max). So it's a matter or priority and who get signed first. After that, Bergevin will need to decide if he trades the remaining UFAs at TDL for assets or keep them for a playoff run like Columbus did. I think he choose the later and doesnt trade anyone except maybe Domi.

Um its going to take way more than Danault to get Dumba!!! Same with the Laine deal going to take way more that what is offered.

Only move that should happen is Danault for Dumba (with other considerations).

it allows for Petry to walk into FA if he asks too much, and keeps him on the team for this year because if Bergevin doesn`t make the playoffs, he`s likely fired.

Meaning you sign Tatar and Gallagher as UFA's.

Domi is an RFA, you can sign him 1-2 years and deal with trading him later if need be, give him the chance at 1-2 LW, if that doesn't work, 3C.

minnys centers are a dumpster fire. they are not bargaining from a position of strength.

What was done here isn’t what I’d do but I would question the point of paying a significant price like that for laine after preforming 3 seller like trades. I just don’t see how coming out improved. At best laine replaces 3/4 of production sold off and that’s a best case but costed best prospect so the team is back to square one waiting for these picks to turn into NHL ready players. I can understand and respect those who think a full rebuild would be good or those who want to continue building the team but I see this as going in both directions at once which doesn’t tend to work out.

i dont hate the tatar trade as a stars fan. only thing is if a first is getting moved i would want an extension done which i dont think dallas could afford plus this is a deep draft.

That's a bad argument. No one trades for a position they don't need.

A smurf winger+a 1st+2nd round pick isn't getting you Patrik Laine.

Your reasoning is terrible for how this trade is of value. GMBG would never do this trade or even consider it. In fact I'm sure he would laugh and hang up the phone.

You understand that the team cant resign everybody because of the salary cap, so they need to trade players for picks, not players with salary, to comply with the cap, right?

Haha ya but not like this. Not sure realize how much is exiting and how little is coming in here. But that’s fine we all have opinions that differ.
