Detroit says hell no, We don't want Smith back and we sure don't want Lias Andersson. Only piece from the Rangers that Yzerman might be interested in is Alexander Georgiev.

Any team taking Dubinsky will likely get picks with him for helping CBJ get his contract off their books.

why do you need LTIR usage? It doesnt give you anything extra. It would actually make things worse because of all the performance bonuses.

Dubinsky will never play a game again so why are you adding assets for nothing ?

I think you take back erne instead of the 7th from wings and upgrade your 6th to a 4th and your 4th to a 3rd and I'd do it

Yea i think this shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the value of LTIR for some teams. Rangers could be paid to take on LTIR assets, but would be better served taking on a contract that is not covered by insurance that a team would bribe them to take, to basically purchase assets.

I see your point. To add. LTIR resets your cap ceiling. So, having 3 million in cap space with a LTIR, makes your team's cap the number that is spent. In this case it is 78 million. Which means non of the performance bonuses could be paid with this year's cap. Although they would technically be cap compliant because they would have 3 million in space to cover the performance bonus overages of 10% of the cap, if I understand LTIR correctly, they would not be able to use that 3 million in space at all. Taking on a LTIR would mean up to 11 million in performance bonuses could be applies towards 21-22 season's cap hit.

LTIR is only helpful for a big spending team if they spend all the way to the ceiling. In the end it just means they can spend the LTIR'd amount to get another player.

Just to be clear on this, Dubinsky's contract is 100% insured, so there's zero cash cost to whoever owns it. As such, CBJ have no inherent incentive to move him, since he doesn't keep us from spending to the cap to re-sign PLD, Gavrikov and Anderson. If a team wanted to work with LTIR like the Leafs did with the Marner situation, we'd be happy to help.
