No trades roster stays intact bottom 6 depth filled with UFAs

Description
No major trades, roster stays as is. Mikeyhev signed at same cap hit % as Hyman did for his current contract. Dermott extended for 2 year bridge deal at double the salary he's currently making. Koivu signed for 2 year contract, but at maximum salary that can be buried incase he does not work out, and Simmonds signed on a 1 year deal to bring some grit to the bottom 6. The money allocated to these two players could be rearranged depending on who the GM values more (IMO, Koivu would be my target as he is a depdable defence-first centre, but the roster does need someone in the bottom 6 who isn't afraid to hit). This still leaves the core intact, and provides flexibility for next off-season when younger RHD (ex. Dougie Hamilton) reach UFA. Also allows them to keep all of their trade chips if they find themselves low in the standings again come next year.

Having Simmonds making 2 million to play on the 4th line doesn't make sense to me, neither does signing Koivu when Brooks is ready.

Simmonds could be a worthwhile addition as he could move up and down the lineup, especially now the RW is thin with the Kapanen trade. But yes it does depend on the price he's asking. I'd rather another year of Brooks with the Marlies than play him 8-9 minutes a night with the big team, and I think Koivu's defence first game is something the team is missing.

Brooks engvall and Gauthier or Spezza. I’m not even a huge fan of Spezza or engvall being there as that line shouldn’t see more than 5min per game.

Player forgotten barbanov.

Leafs do not need any ufa’s to “fill their roster” if leafs feel they want to upgrade their roster with ufa’s then sure.

Heard some fairly credible rumours that Johnsson is indeed being shopped. It appears he may be moved before the draft. Which I really didn’t think he would.

I hope not - they'd be selling low on him forsure.

Id also rather them bring in some guys with experience for the bottom 6 then experiment with guys from the Marlies. It was clear from their play in the AHL this year that very few (if any) are ready to push for a full-time spot with the big club.
