2020-21 Virtanen Trade

Description
Vancouver fans: is this fair value for Virtanen and shedding Baertschi's contract? The 2020 3rd round pick would be the 1st pick in the 3rd round...essentially the same value as a late 2nd.

I'm not gonna pretend like I know what his value is so genuine feedback is appreciated!

I dunno, I'm gonna have to disagree with you there but I am in no way gonna pretend that I actually know the fair value for Virtanen. I do think teams would be interested in him, thought this was at least close.

They are interested in him, but not with Baertschi involved.

He hasn't scored 20 goals once in 5 years, is lazy takes shifts off and isnt s great guy in the locker room, he doesn't have any value for the wings, we would just turn around and trade him elsewhere. We aren't going to include a pick to take on a cap dump and a guy with character issues

I’d prefer the pick to be a round later but I think that’s pretty close

Fair enough. I figured VAN would want to at least try and move out at least one of those contract so I just included. The return would obviously be greater without.

I'm not arguing with you man! AGAIN, I have close to know knowledge of Virtanen other than looking up his stats. Just figured a team would take a flyer on him to see if he could turn it around. I know this isn't the same situation but look at what a change of scenery did for Fabbri? Now, obviously Fabbri doesn't have the off ice issues that Virtanen apparently does but I do think he has at least a BIT more value than you think.

I agree, just don't think wings do it if we have to add a 3rd. We got fabbri for Jacob de la rose.

Understandable, haha that Fabbri deal gets me everytime...absolutely fleeced the Blues!

De La Rose has been useful for the Blues. Not a fan of Virtanen.

I think NJD is all over Virtanen...they have been transparent about adding a forward via trade and Jake checks a lot of boxes for them.

Don't think they'll move one of those late firsts for him, but also wouldn't be totally shocked if they did.

Red Wings fans can get bent. If trading Baertschi costs Virtanen, then just find another team that isn't as stingy. I've seen a lot of people on here that are fans of rebuilding teams with excess cap space and they think their team has all the leverage. Like I agree they have a lot of the leverage but they also need players and cap to reach the floor and to take chances on guys.

Yup Id agree. There are a number of teams who can weaponize the cap. If you aren't ready to take 1 yr of Baertchi (who is definitely in your lineup) for Virtanen I think you are getting greedy.

To be fair all I've ever asked for is a 3rd rounder to take baertschi

The trade has Red Wings sending the first pick in 3rd round back. Plus a sixth and Erne (who we traded a 4th to acquire). So it’s not what you’re saying is it. And Baertschi doesn’t “definitely make our lineup”
It’s not an interesting trade for Red Wings to look at making. And I don’t think Virtanen is a good hockey player.

Could def drop the third. Baertchi isn't a bad player at all. Virtanen is frustrating but a game breaker when he goes. He scores goals out of no where. His mix of size and skating is in the top 5% of the league.
