Changed my mind and dropped it to a 2nd 😇

I think if Montreal would retain salary then Toronto would move the 1st.

Lol. So 2 players we don’t want plus a 2nd? Not a chance.

Also why do you want Danault? People were complaining about people’s ice time when you had Kadri as the 3C. That would be even worse with Danault.

Dermott does not have arbitration rights. $906,500 is his qualifying offer at 105% of his previous salary ($863,333).

Nobody was complaining about anyone's ice time; the Leafs moved Kadri to re-work their salary structure. Danault is a great player (as I'm sure you know), but also he's a pending UFA, which gives Toronto flexibility in the summer of 2021 when Hyman is up for FA and Rielly is eligible for an extension.

Why would they do that if he doesn't have arb rights? Dermott has zero leverage on a 1-year deal; if he asks for $2.5M, the Leafs will say no.

A lot of the leafs fans that I had to deal with were complaining that Matthews wasn’t getting enough ice time and Kadri was getting too much.

Anyways, the Leafs don’t need Danault, and they’re going to have to pay a premium to get him if they really want him, because of how important he is to the team, and because they’re the Leafs.

A team can sign him to a 2.15 million offer sheet and the compensation is just a third round pick.

Yes, and if he doesn't sign it then he doesn't play hockey next season. Again, the player does not have arbitration rights. It's either an offer sheet or his qualifying offer.

If the Leafs trade Kerfoot, they do need a 3C. And if they sign Pietrangelo, they're trading Kerfoot.

But Danault isn’t a 3C. This armchair GM team should be more focused on getting an actual starting goalie instead of 3 number 1 centres.

Might want to check your math there... dermott’s salary is 832,500 his QO is 874,125.

Personally I think there is a good chance he signs it.

I believe the relevant number is $863,333 because of the way his signing bonuses slid in 15/16 and 16/17. Could be wrong.

This just strikes me as, i don’t really want to say delusional, so I’ll just say woefully misinformed. Look around the league. When does this happen? When do NHL d men just sign their QO? Almost never. When is it, “sign the QO, an offer sheet, or don’t play hockey?” Literally never. Teams don’t want to ruin the relationship with the player. Take this route and he’s just taking three arbitration contracts after this year and then skipping town, and that’s the best case scenario. The more likely scenario, is he is so shocked by this nearly unprecedented negotiating tactic and goes off and signs an offer sheet for one year and a couple bucks under the 2nd round pick threshold (2.15 mill lets say), and then rides out arb deals to UFA.

Also, what have you seen from Dubas that would make you think this is the way he operates? He seems to cave to whatever his RFAs want, don’t you think? Anyway, I don’t think Dermott is anything special, but I think a nice 1.5 million with some signing bonus money would keep relations pretty good.

Who is saying that Kerfoot sucks? He's a middle-six forward that can play C or LW signed for good AAV and good term.
