Staal>Kerfoot.
8th overall> Andersen especially when they had a goalie who was better than Andersen this season.

No thanks from Buffalo. I'd rather have Staal than Kerfoot especially when he's cheaper. And Portillo is too solid a prospect to take on an expensive Freddy when we already have Ullmark. Not to mention moving back in the draft at the same time. So a triple no.

Columbus says no thanks, as we're not motivated to move Korpisalo (alone or, more likely, as part of a package) without receiving a legit top-6 F on a contender in return, especially if it's a 2C. Johnsson isn't a fit with us. Also, Anderson is either gonna sign long-term (think 4x3.5 as the absolute minimum Darren Ferris will take) or he'll take his $2.1M QO and walk to UFA next offseason. Doubt there's any in-between.

I'm not saying Buffalo would do this deal as I don't think there would be interesting in moving down that far unless Andersen has an extension in place. But, Kerfoot would have more value than Staal who will most definitely leave/retire after the year in Buffalo. I really don't think Kerfoot has negative value as some suggest, not high value but more value than a guy who's leaving after the year playing on a non-contending team.

Remember what you got for Kapanen? That's roughly what we expect for Rakell. Think the Pittsburgh pick and Liljegren. We certainly don't need another left-handed middle-6 forward one year before the next expansion draft.

Buffalo says no, why would we trade down and trade away our old 2C for a 3C and a soon to be wealthier goalie? It doesn’t really help us. Not to mention trying to steal a solid prospect in the weeds of the mess.

Adams wouldn't do that to Staal, maybe at the TDL if Staal said ok and the Sabres are out of it. Sabres aren't giving up 8OA to Tor unless you are talking Matthews and there's no chance of that. As for goalies there will plenty to choose from then to have to give up assets for Anderson, especially 8OA.

Looks at the history of trades involving a top 10 pick at the draft before you say things so matter-of-factly

It just doesn’t make any sense. Sabres lose the best assets in this trade.

There isn't enough there to trade 8OA

Yeah, big no from me too. Staal is exactly what we need, no interest in anderson. There is just nothing here that remotely makes me wanna move back.

The entire premise of this trade is based on Staal not wanting to play in Buffalo.

Because he's talked about how he's excited to be here and be a leader on and off the ice and is playing for a guy he won a cup with, on a line with talented players and is instantly a fan favourite by the shear fact that we won a trade for him? That's why he doesn't wanna play for Buffalo?
