I kind of agree, I wasn't too clear on Trochek's value, maybe the 4th can become a 2nd or 3rd.

Okay, I thought that they weren't too happy with how he was working out there. Maybe I heard wrong.

The difference in value between Trocheck and McCann is not a player that is better than Trocheck (Rust).

I was thinking that the Canes wouldn't want to move him within the division, so his cost would be higher, plus I don't want to move Rust, but in this situation it's more about having cap space to sign Shattenkirk as he is more of a need. I really like Rust, but his value around the league isn't as high as Pens fans think, mainly because he has one solid season with a high shooting%, no guarantee that he does that again. Trochek is an ideal 3rd line centre and so thus I have the Pens over paying, but I didn't think they were over paying by much.

Trying to gauge what both fan bases think is fair. I have you saying the Canes won't move Trochek and I have Pens fans saying that I am paying too much for him. Is there anything that would work from your side?

On the flip side, what do Pens fans think is fair to make this trade work? upgrading the 4th to a 2nd? something else?

Carolina just won't trade him because they were searching for a 2c and he is one. The value isn't why carolina doesn't trade him, its the needs of the team. You don't trade to fulfill a need and then trade the player away just to need someone like him again

But with his defensive side of his game, isn't Trochek more of a 3c? Now with McCann, if given good line driving wingers, he is better suited as a 2C than a 3C. But I guess it doesn't matter since McCann has signed with the Pens.

Trocheck hasn't been the same since his injury.

yeah he isn't the guy who got 75 points but he still was on pace for 50 points and Rust doesn't usually get that pace. Rust also plays for the penguins who are a better team than the Panthers. I'm not talking about trocheck on Carolina bc he only played 8 games

I'd also add that Rust's contract is for the same term and for $1.25 million less each year.
