I mean as a Leaf fan, I'm not overly thrilled about decimating our prospect pipeline for 2 years of Parayko (I love Parayko btw). But the real question that came to mind when I saw this ACGM is, if you have 11M in cap left why trade Parayko at all? You're taking a major downgrade in Faulk as your 2nd pairing RHD. I think if you're able to move Steen, Bozak and Gunnarsson, just resign Pietro. It still leaves you with about 7M to sign a UFA forward like Hoffman.

feels like making a bunch of cap space at the expense of the future, and then filling it with contracts that are worse than the ones that we could've kept.

I'm assuming Tarasenko is coming back next season, so there won't be quite that much in cap space. I don't love trading Parayko either, but I see it as a way of getting two cost controlled LW's at about the same price as him considering the cap. Probably not at all what will happen, but it takes from their strongest position RD and strengthens their weakest position LW. It also leaves some cap space to extend all of the RFA's they have the next year.

The return for Parayko isn't enough. We can get more than that IMO.
