Bottom 6 and D Reworked

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 18, 2020
Published: Sep. 18, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Florida sheds a bunch of cap and get a lot of high quality futures.
Vegas gets more scoring and a replacement Dman. Leafs gets top 4 RHD and Toughness.

Leafs now have best Dcorp in League but their offence takes a big hit. They still have their 3 majorly skilled guys up front and then a lot more toughness. They would protect 4 F and 4 D in Seattle draft.

1. Matthews
2. Marner
3. Tavares
4. Hyman if resigned or Aciari or Reaves (I believe Mikheyev is exempt)

1. Rielly
2. Ekblad
3. Muzzin
4. Schmidt
Sandin is exempt

Nylander will not be traded. Kapanen has already been traded from the right side and our depth is shot.

That vegas trade is awful for Toronto, and even suggesting they could use an expansion protection spot on reaves? Woof

I guess they could protect Dermott. So 5 d and their 3 big forwards.

I am a big fan of Schmidt (and Nylander for that matter). Don't think it's as awful for the Leafs as you would think. But the Leafs forward group took a big hit in this one.

Schmidt isnt worth near enough to be the party peice for Nylander. It is a terrible deal and reaves is hilariously over paid for a 4th liner. This would be a clean cut loss for the leafs

Vegas doesn't really need Nylander unless they move him to centre and trade Stastny, and Schmidt is more offensive when the leafs need a more defensive guy

More than likely! I was filling out the bottom of the roster with the type of players that I wanted. Based on this roster I can bump him up to 1m. But still. I don't think there will be much money for bottom of the roster guys in free agency. With this entire COVID mess.

I think the package is just about right as is. Florida only does it if a big package comes their way and if they go down in cap (and real dollars). If they want Sandin, they don't get Robertson.

Then it’s a no from Florida. You can keep Kerfoot but Sandin and Robertson are a requirement for Ekblad

We'd offer Nylander instead of those other guys in that trade and scrap that Vegas trade (then we protect 7 forward and 3 defenceman after all).

Adding Nylander removes Kerfoot and Robertson but not Sandin and the first. I can only see Nylander if they don’t have a cap cut mandate if they do then it would be Robertson, Sandin, the first and this years next instead of next but that’s not a deal breaker just preferably.

The reason why a Ekblad trade would include Nylander is so the cap would work, but even so, he's worth more than Robertson and Kerfoot. Maybe not if Robertson catches fire and wins the calder. But right now yes.

Agreed cap wise but even though the GM himself says there isn’t a cap some still says the Cats have an internal cap and if that’s accurate then the Cats would want Nylander but all ELC contracts and high picks

I feel like our team is worse here and hasn’t been supplemented with futures, so what’s it all for? Really all youve done here is trade away most of our good prospects, while destroying the second line to bring in Ekblad.
