In order to get rid of Hornqvist and Johnson, it'll mean giving up assets to sweeten the deal. It won't mean getting assets back. Whether they go to Ottawa or another team, they'll be going with prospects or picks. Very simple. Nobody wants bad deals and so nobody's going to be giving up anywhere close to a 3rd for them.
Also Ottawa has very little problem hitting the floor as is. They have Chabot's new deal kicking in, and they have to sign a couple of guys like Anthony Duclair, Chris Tierney and Connor Brown. They're sitting at $42M right now, so they only need $20M and they only have 4F, 4D and 2G signed. They'll also take players that have vastly lower salaries than their hits, and Johnson makes $3M compared to his $3.25M this year (so negligible, although next year is a bit larger) while Hornqvist makes the same as his hit (and has a NTC so it's not happening).
