Pretty solid deal. Takes a bridge contract for 2 years to prove himself

Solid deal, little less AAV than what I was expecting. Weird number to pick for AAV though, why not just round to 3M? Im sure he asked for 3 so I wonder if JR was really that stingy over 60k lol

Congratulations on the strangest AAV I have ever seen. Just round up or down for crying out loud.

Fair deal though. This (and the Fabbri deal) sets the bar for many other teams waiting to sign young middle six forwards.

I like the deal. 2 years, low AAV and he's still an RFA at the end of it.

I believe 3 years would have taken him to UFA

Much better option than trading him. Gets him cheap for the two years the team still has Malkin and Letang under contract.

Chance to re-sign him with one RFA year left at the end too (or trade him if the team sucks then).

Well, Nick Ritchie has a $1,498,925 cap hit and Parise/Suter/Weber also have 6-7 different numbers, at least this one is $2,940,000.

Nick Ritchie's was because he signed after the season started so it messed with the AAV after the 1st season. Parise & Suter's AAV make sense since the total contract value is 98M exactly, its just a weird number when you divide that by 13 years. Same with Weber with a contract value of 110M over 14 years. McCann has a weird AAV AND a weird total contract value

Notice how everyone is commenting on how thankful they are because of all the questionable moves by J.R. lately. WE ALL know what's up! We watch this stuff and we know what's a good value for both sides when we see it. Juts DON'T OVERPAY for anyone and it's better to sit still than to do something rash or stupid like giving up a 1st round 15th overall pick for a guy that nobody was giving a 1st overall pick for. I would have rather traded away Matt Murray for Kasperi Kapanen and STILL had our first round 15th overall pick than to be where we are now without that pick and WITHOUT our higher rated prospect that plays center and plays a very good two way game.

Who agrees or disagrees?

Still RFA after the two years, PIT will still have leverage.

Evolving-Hockey had him at 3.2 for 2 years.

Can't go wrong with that signing

He literally could have done anything that wasn't absurdly stupid and it would be considered a good move for him

I'll take it, would have preferred a 3rd year, but 🤷‍♂️

Edit: was assuming either 2 or 3 would have taken him to UFA
