Description

Ekblad is rumored to be on the market and it could free up room if the Devils, who should not be trading firsts get a real top line guy under term and take the chance on Matheson. The right wing is still a problem but this is a better Devils team moving forward. They may be better off keeping the picks but it's worth a look. Mermis and Rooney played well enough to be retained. Long term PK, Zajac and Cory's contracts expire offering cap stability and to sign Hughes, Smith and Goose long term.

It was more of a thought experiment. I wanted to see what this would look like on paper. Nearly 8 mil in cap space and contracts coming off the books actually looks ok with a lot of contributors on term. High cost with those picks though,
