Description
Risto out in expansion draft so that's why the Soucy signing is key. 22.5 million in cap space next season for Dahlin, Jokiharju and more. Plus several prospects and 8 overall possibly ready to step in for less than a million.

Also please don't say "he won't sign in Buffalo" because we don't know what he's thinking/planning to do.

Imo you’d have to trade Risto if you want Pietrangelo. Sabres are going to have a 68-70 million internal cap so you’d have to move a couple heft contracts to make it work. I’d love Pietrangelo here but I don’t think the Sabres do it

VAN decline they don't need a dman who has been a constant healthy scratch on a bad Sabres team.

The GM literally made a press release yesterday saying that rumour wasn't true.

Which rumor, the Cap rumor? Bc of course he’s going to say that in public. But let’s face it most teams are most likely not going to spend up to the cap (especially the Sabres because they have Dahlin to pay next season). Also link to this press release bc I’m constantly on Twitter and saw nothing of it.

Update: so I just went on Twitter and I see nothing of him saying that those rumors are untrue. I did see something about he isn’t going to worry about the cap and is only worried about building a team. Which great but they still should have somewhat of an internal cap especially when they have to sign Dahlin after next year

They can spend up to the cap this year and with expiring contracts still have 25 million in room next year. They just have to be smart. Plus we're gonna lose someone (likely Risto in my opinion) which frees 5.4... dahlin should be a 7.5 x 3 bridge in my opinion... nothing we can't handle and he's still an rfa at the end with a chance to get Karlsson money when he's earned it

Not a chance I’d go bridge deal for Dahlin. I want him locked up long term like I wanted Sam but Botterill botched that and now he’s worth 2-3 million more than what he would’ve gotten 2 years ago. Had he signed Sam long term in the first place he probably would’ve taken 8x5.5 now he’ll probably want 7-8 a year in a long term deal. I’d offer Dahlin 8x8.5 and see if he takes that. Not to mention the Sabres are not going to spend to the cap. The Pegulas probably told Adams when they hired him that they set an internal cap bc of COVID and all the money they’ve already lost with the Sabres. (60 million in 3 years)
