No reason for the Leafs to move back in position or years with that pick for Montour when there are a lot of better options available at around the same cap hit in free agency.

I know Toronto wants better players on the right d side, but this is a pretty low cost move unlike the more than 8m$ to sign Pietrangelo.
loosing a somewhat expensive 3rd line center for an RHD you can save some cap on and likely a higher pick in future is pretty good. (PIT due for decline soon)
if you wanted to get a "better" D man you have to pay more saying around same cap hit when you are crunched against cap limit is a bit weird.

he can want double that but no one is going to give it to someone who finished with sub 0.900 save %. Ullmark had better season
still a good player but didnt show it this year kinda why PIT looks to be shopping him.
for the sake of not putting in weird numbers i gave Mitts and Thompson 800 000, it looks better and gets point across.

he is an RFA not UFA, on a down year, with a goalie heavy market and a virus that is causing a flat cap.
the odds of him getting above 4m$ are very very low in my mind.

Yes but teams that trade for him are going to know and cave to his demands or they wont give up the assets

plausible but they could always just go to arbitration or just give qualifying offer, team gm's job is not to cave.
its not very common that players say they wont sign and sit out on nhl, i can only think of Puljujärvi and Peca off the top of my head.

Nylander. I think Arb would give him 5, theyre always skewed towards the player, especially established players with 2 rings

at the end of the day i dont think he would get that at all.
having rings is nice but, he just didnt lose it for pit was not a factor that stole games.
just went on a deep dive into stats for goalies and see he sits around 50-60th for last year in most important stats.
So worth giving a shot but thats it.
