The leafs are so badly built that they either sacrifice depth, sacrifice defense, sacrifice goaltending or sacrifice necessary offense to get a guy like Pietr on a market value contract.

Sure he is seeking 9.25m..(if reports are accurate). It means nothing. Now in flat cap league and where RFAs are making more, there are probably few teams that would offer long term more than 8m IMO. And then you have to factor in what teams are "acceptable" to PIetrangelo relocating.
I'm sure the Kings and Sharks have regrets signing Doughty and Karlsson to those long term deals. Rangers might have regrets with 8m Trouba too. Maybe Carlsson's 8m with Washington should be the standard that is set.
