Chicago passes. Need Murphy way more and he’s probably worth more.

None of those trades go through. Gross overpayment to Arizona. Underpayment to Chicago. Maybe that Carolina trade goes through, not sure how much it really helps either team?

Are you sure Kuemper is an upgrade over Andersen? And Mikheyev is projected to get closer the $3mil per season. Also, I'm pretty sure it would take a lot more to get Nylander unless you see this as a salary dump.

He may not be an upgrade, but he'll thrive with our new defensive depth. Also Mikheyev was injured for a lot of the season so he wouldn't be earning that much on his new contract. Also heard multiple rumours from other leafs fanpages that Mikheyev could sign for a similar deal comapred to mine.

I was thinking I could chip in Andersen to Chicago but idk since you could probably use Crawford for 1 more year

Yeah, Anderson isn't the answer for who's gonna be our goalie in 10 years so the hawks don't really want Anderson. We would rather just sign crow for 1 mil ish cheaper to be the short term goalie

so if the leafs were interested in murphy, realistically what do you think the hawks would want/need back in return?

Trade your 1st round pick. The only player on the Leafs the Hawks have interest in that is conceivably tradeable is Nylander (Matthews is not). Johnsson is nothing more then a cap dump to the Hawks, we have zero room for a bottom 6 winger costing $3.4M. Think about the Hawks wingers; Kubalik, Kane, Saad, Debrincat; Johnsson is a 3rd liner.

Is murphy really worth a first round pick? I get that hockey isn't all about points but I'm not so sure a first rounder is worth a defenseman who didn't even score 20 points this year. I could be wrong, but I've also never heard of him until this years playoffs started.

You must not be following enough hockey outside of the Leafs. Murphy is a physical stay at home defender, his job isn't to score points. There are a lot of very good stay at home defenders who score 20 points.

This was the only trade that wasn't heavily weighted against the Leafs.

That guy is a Hawks Homer, he legit things Saad is worth Nylander. There is no reasoning with him.

If Johnsson is worth a 4th then we will take Murphy for a 3rd...

I get there’s no need for Johnsson on the hawks. This trade really doesn’t do anything for them. That doesn’t make Johnsson worth a 4th.

Johnson is a cap dump to most teams. He makes 3.4 million and in a flat cap world he's worth no where near that. Additionally, he plays 86% of his time with mathews and is the most assisted to player in the NHL. Away from mathews he does absolutly nothing. Murphy is a shut down top 4 RHD also on a great contract. those don't grow on trees. Overpaid middle 6 wingers are everywhere

Away from Matthews he does nothing is false. He plays with Matthews because he is smart with the puck and it is actually nylander that they try to keep him with because they have great chemistry. He worked his way up there by putting up solid numbers, like scoring a hat trick in one period with brown and lindholm as his line mates.

I get he had a rough season last year but I’m not going to fault a guy who breaks his leg blocking shots.

As a leafs fan I would live to keep Johnsson because he is really good. But he is a guy leafs can afford to lose because of lW depth. But he is in my opinion the 4th best winger on the leafs behind Hyman. And I may just be biased because of Hyman’s team first attitude and work ethic.

Kubalik scores 30 goals as a rookie and doesn't play with kane like how Johnson plays with Mathews. How are Johnson and Kubalik comparable at all lol. Even leafs fans know kubalik is waaaaayyyy better
