Yeah, we know Leaf fans you think Doughty is super washed up, but Marner isn't worth 16M a season either. Pass from both sides.

Imagine asking someone to retain $38.5ish mil on a contract. Yiiiiikes.

Casual 50% retention on the 5th highest cap hit in the NHL. Someone's having themselves a Monday.

Does his actual salary matter to anyone but MLSE? Why should a fan care about actual salary?

After his signing bonus is paid out Marner is owed
700K this upcoming season
10.358 million the following season
8 mil 3 seasons in a row....

No 16 million for anyone else?

Unless you are adding the retention to say your effectively paying that

I mean the Kings are essentially taking on a $16M cap hit for Marner with Doughty's retained contract. In contrast, let's say somehow the Kraken pass on Doughty, the Kings could still just buy out Doughty next season get hit with a $7.2 M cap hit for two years and then retain $3.2 after. Like any of those options is better than paying $16M for Marner, it would handicap us for a decade.

The Kings have money dude, it's about the long term cap hit.

I thought you were talking about Marner's actual salary this year (which is $16M).

In no reality is any team/owner ever signing off on a trade that they eat close to $40M for a player to play elsewhere.

So not much point in debate over possibility of this proposal.

Yeah, that's all, sorry for the confusion, I had no idea of the real dollar he was paying, we don't care about that.
