That's a lot to give up for likely 1 year of Raanta and Hjalmarsson. After 1 year, you would have traded Montour + Mittlestadt + 1st + 2nd and all you have to show for it is Conor Garland...

Nik Hjalmarsson isn’t waiving his NMC. News came out this morning.

I think Norris is near untouchable for the Sens. They’re really high on him, and rightful so after lighting up the AHL during his first pro season

That Ottawa trade is super far off-base. We have two potential 2C candidates in Norris and L. Brown, and we're not trading either until one of them establishes themselves. Also, we have no interest in Risto, our top 3 D prospects are Brannstrom, Thomson, and JBD, all of whom play the right side, and we also have Zub who can hopefully be a good shutdown guy (plus we're stuck with Zaitsev for a while so there's really no room for Risto). Portillo is okay I guess, and it helps that he can play in university rather than join our stocked pro pipeline (both NHL spots, both AHL spots, and ECHL starter are all full to start next year) but I don't see him as having higher end potential than Gustavsson or Sogaard, so even if he's better than Daccord and Mandolese (not really sure about that though), him+2nd isn't gonna convince us to move Norris at this point in our rebuild.

That's why I'm high on him too ahah I thought maybe with Brown, White, Tierney, Batherson, etc. They might be enticed.

Definitely fair all around. And I'm jealous of you having the prospects that you do at RHD lol I thought maybe they would be interested in someone better than Mike Reilly running the PP2 and possibly playing a lot of minutes with Chabot. I think Portillo should be better than Gustavsson and Sogaard. I'm not super high on them evidently though. Fair to turn it down though for sure!

Good to know I thought taking his contract on would be a big sweetener for Arizona to make a move.

I think Brannstrom is probably going to get every opportunity to run PP2 next year tbh. Also, Sogaard was picked 30 picks above Portillo last draft and is bigger haha, so at worst I'd say they're in pretty much the same boat at this point, and Gustavsson has been a little slower to develop than hoped but he's still got high-end potential (he has flashes, like when he just didn't lose in regulation in January this year and won AHL goalie of the month, just gotta work on getting that for a full season) and he's a little older, so he's closer to being NHL ready.
