New Goalie as starter

Created by: KingsLover
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 21, 2020
Published: Sep. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- With an aging core and a lack of cap space because of the fact that apparently Shaw and Seabrook are going to be healthy for next year it's gonna take some flexibility and some creative moves.

- Georgiev is a target for acquisition since apparently Crawford won't return to the team, they aren't many goalies at Georgiev's caliber on the open market, for the money he would make.

- Delia I think can be decent enough as the backup goalie. Not amazing, but he's okay and with the lack of cap space the team has to rely on his play for next year.

- The only way I could see the team saving real money is to buyout Määttä since they would only have to pay 1/3 of his money, also I've seen plenty of people trying to trade him for a low pick. I just don't see anybody being able to take him on with the flat cap this year, and his cheap cap hit from a buyout definitely is a positive.

- I also bought out Zack Smith, he doesn't really have a spot on this club and his cap hit is far too large for a guy who will be more of a healthy scratch for this team.

Yea it starts with a 2020 2nd here boss. I mean i would maybe consider a 2022 1st for Georgiev but the time horizon is just too long out when they could get present futures that would be better or comparable to this package.

What would it cost for a guy like Georgiev? Maybe a solid defensive prospect like Beaudin.

Maybe their 2020 1st? since it's 17th overall I think.

Rangers won't get a 1st for georgiev. There are too many goalies available. One of Markstrom/Demko, One of Lehner/Fleury, greiss, khudobin, one of jarry/murray, crawford, georgiev, dell, possibly anderson, etc. Teams won't pay a 1st when they can get a goalie that is just as good or better for cheaper. Additionally, georgiev hasn't really proved himself as a starter. That being said NYR don't have to protect shesterkin so they could just keep georgiev and protect him. If they don't like the return then keep him, but they aern't getting a 1st I can tell you that

Yeah I thought that's too much too, tbh I believe they're getting fair value for him here. Maybe a decent defensive prospect would be the option.

Also, where did this AGM guy read that "Crawford won't return". I'm pretty up to speed and the only thing is Crawford is not happy with the original offer believed to be 1 year $3.5M. He probably wants 2 years and $4M per year. Nowhere have I seen "Crawford won't return" in fact it's the opposite as he stated just a week ago he is willing to take a discount to stay in Chicago.

I read it in this Blackhawks article.
https://blackhawkup.com/2020/09/18/blackhawks-corey-crawfords-contract-issue-not-expected/

Clearly not "willing to take a discount" He wants more than 3.5 mil and the Hawks realistically can't afford that since they have the mindset of wanting to at least make the playoffs and see where they go from there. Crawford is more than likely walking cuz he could get more on the open market from a team like Ottawa, Buffalo or Detroit.

Probably the worst source for Blackhawks news.

Crawford has said in an interview he is willing to take a discount; google it. Taking a discount is subjective though of course. He's not going to head to a team like Ottawa, Buffalo or Detroit that's crazy talk to suggest that. If he's not a Hawk, he will head to a team competing next year or retire. He has stated, at his age he doesn't want to start over with another team and wants to be the #1 starter.

Why would crow pack up his entire family and life for the fumpster fire's that are ottowa, buffalo, and detroit. Crow has ben in Chicago for a long time, and now has a wife and two kids here. He has openly expressed the want to stay here. If he doesn't re sign with the hawks I see him retiring. It just doesn't make sense for crow to pack it up at this point in his life

The value will be a 2020 2nd and a player/ prospect whatever that is.
