Why don't you just shift Hertl to wing, Couture 1C, Danault 2C, and sign a 3C instead of Smith?

Edit: I see you moved Couture to wing instead of Hertl. I think Couture is a better 200 foot player than Hertl. But close enough.

Lots of good line combination options with this roster. It's honestly fun trying different combos here, the depth in this lineup could be insane.

I hear what you're saying but Danault and Smith are two of the best 5-on-5 players in the league so I'd prefer Sharks sign Smith than another truer center at similar cap hit/term (the short 2-yr UFA deal frees up cap space for Hertl's extension). Also, given Smith's a RH-shot, it'd be another pro for the lineup to have a RH center for faceoffs, but then again, Smith can just take some of the faceoffs at wing too.

I just don't see Smith taking a lot of face-offs in Nashville, that's why I bring it up. Another 3C option could be Stastny out of Vegas, I'm sure they may retain a fair chunk for a mid to later pick. They're looking for cap space.

This trade probably comes with Danault signing an extension, but you'll need capspace for that
MTL accept
If it's a rental, Sharks are overpaying here

I would say an expensive rental even deal if extended. minor thing, but sign a cheap 3rd right d and merkley plays in the ahl (not ready for the big league imo)

Getting Johansson makes him expendable in theory for a trade at the right price, especially if they get the sentiment that he won't resign as a pending UFA.

Yea this scenario has a sign-and-extension for Danault at that price. It also has the capspace with Burns likely getting selected by SEA in the offseason and for Hertl's extension the year after with Smith's deal expiring at the same time.

He is most likely going to be named the next captain.
