Johnson imo isnt even worth a 2nd. With his contract and his play the last year and his age, good luck getting anything more than a 3rd.

You have to take his play into context. He was a 29 goal scorer on the second line last year, but saw regression this year when moved to the third line. No injuries, just a change in the level of talent he was playing with on the ice.
If paired with a solid 2nd line, he still has it in him to score 20+ a season. However, with his NTC, any team interested in those services would likely have to be a contender. I'm not doing a rundown on every teams center situation and where they project to be next year, so I am just going to leave it as a 2nd.

Youre not considering the major issue of a flat cap. If the cap had gone up then maybe so but it hasnt and likely isnt next year either. Coming off a bad season, 4 years left at 5mil per. Id be shocked if any team would give a 2nd.

Yep, the damn flat cap. Might not allow for much return on Johnson, but I will enjoy FA and Trade news throughout the league as teams try to make it all work.

Do the Pens or any of Killorn's M NTC teams have the cap room for him, in a trade where no cap is returned to the Pens?
Tell us, what is NTC Johnson's motivation to leave Tampa for Minnesota?

Pretty sure Tampa keeps Cirelli, but if they moved him to the NYR they’d want a better return than this. Chytil+Carolina’s 2020 1st as a minimum, not a pick in a weaker draft. Tampa probably goes after Nils Lundkvist or Adam Fox first but maybe Chytil+ could work. Tampa is only going to move Cirelli for a deal too good to pass up, as 22 year old rising 2C’s that just took 4th in Selke voting are not easy to find.

I'd pass is I was MN. Johnson's age and contract are too much to take on. He's the same price in trade as Kerfoot, Stepan, etc. Or add a little more and get Domi (not a fan of this trade idea at all) and pay him similar money to Johnson.

... ntc might not give them a choice and they may have to move him. The rangers might do a chytil and 1st combo but ur not getting fox, nils, keandre, kakko, and likely kravtsov for him there all off limits

What slander? I love Paquette!

Let's be honest, Stephens is a much more attractive 4 liner with what Paquette's cap hit will be vs. Stephens'. As for getting him away from Tampa, it's because I don't want any of our guys on the receiving end of his forechecking grimace At the most I would only want to face him twice a year and the SCF

The Gophers had a receiver named Tyler Johnson. That's literally why Minnesota was picked. I'm not calling the entire league (don't have time for that smile ) to find 2 to tango in order to get the best deal on him, but the state of Minnesota is down a Tyler Johnson after he went to the Bucs.

That trade offer's probably not far off. But offer sheeting him would be cheaper. And if you match it, then we can sign Sergachev to one wink

You really going to do your favorite trading partner like that?

Seriously though, the trade is a win for both parties. Chytil has no future with the Rangers if you all do eventually end up with Cirelli.
Also, don't underestimate the culture within the Tampa organization. RFAs have been extremely willing to sign lesser bridge deals and stay with the team than leave immediately for a bigger payday at a different team. We've only had one bad apple since Yzerman first took over, and then we fleeced Montreal with him.

I thought about it for a second that Cirelli might not actually accept an offer sheet, (like Point and Montreal), but maybe winning the cup could cause some selfishness or greed... or it'll do the exact opposite and make guys more willing to buy in.

And at some point, we're gonna have to end that relationship, as much as it will crush both fanbases.

I wouldn't say greed would result if we win the cup, but market values obviously go up and the sense of accomplishment and willingness to take on a new challenge could lead to some of the younger guys looking elsewhere if we cannot pay them immediately. That's only natural of players on championship teams. The Rangers would be an attractive option for Cirelli with Bread Man and the prospect pipeline, for future playoff chances, but if worse comes to worse (for the Bolts) then I think a trade instead of an offer sheet would be worked out.

Then Tampa just keeps Cirelli, cool. Tampa has many, many routes to take before they'd consider moving either Cirelli or Serg. Realistically, Chytil+Carolina's 1st probably isn't enough, but it's better than some. Tampa has no want or need to move Cirelli, so if another team really wants him they'll have to really impress Tampa. Chytil isn't a real replacement for a win now team, although he has potential, and the pick isn't helping Tampa for 2 to 3 years, at best. Tampa would likely ask for Fox, I'm sure Rangers likely say no and then they'd ask for Lundkvist as the primary, if Rangers still say no, Tampa likely moves to a better offer.
