2nd line center at 50% retained for.. a 2nd round pick?

You're right that's too little but I can see VGS trading Stastny this offseason and I could see it happening for two 2nd round picks (I'll update that now).

Plan A is Stastny at 50% retention. Plan B is Stepan at 50% retention. (Identical contracts.)

One of the things I love about leafs fans is that they’re always talking about all the players that will ‘come home’ and play for Toronto as a UFA. Finally a star player actually does that and just two years later they already want to ship him out 😂.

Just an FYI Tavares has a NMC and his contract is essentially buyout proof, so for better or for worse you’re stuck with him.

Edit: I see this blew up in my face cause you’re not a leafs fan, however in my defence I have seen quite a few where they try to trade him. And the Stastny deal seemed like a classic Leafs move to under value other teams players, so it threw me off.

Leafs are rolling in money, what team can give Pitrangelo a 10mill bonus. More than half the teams in the league are going through internal caps and cutting staff pay. Pitrangelo goes to free agency Dubas will have a briefcase of bonus money waiting for him lul. Sadly though it means Nylander is gone.


In general Leafs have no need to move tavares as he still can be a 50 goal scorer. People who are trading him just be trading for the sake of trading. Like Bergeron I see tavares continuing to be good for this team till the day he retires.
