Works for everyone, rangers get out of the money, wings get a first rounder and Hank should waive the NMC since he’s just getting bought out anyway

The cost upside for the Wings to grab a guy like Bourque, Reichel or Amirov at 22 is too sweet to pass up. I’ll call Stevie, let Gorton know we have a deal.

Detroit declines on the Lundqvist trade, He's not waiving his NMC to go there anyways. Rather take on 2 years of MAF at $7m per instead.

NYR trade works. I like the idea for any cap dump trade. Use their cap space and not have to deal with a roster spot being taken up.

I think that'd be a good way for Henrik to get to another team. DET eats the cap hit, (gets 22nd OA), then he's bought out, then free to go anywhere as a FA to back up on a contender.

Seems like a win - win. Expect for the 25% of salary Henrik is missing, but his new team would probably cover that.

If they were to trade Eichel (which they won’t) they would obviously keep Dahlin to build around.

What? What a bad take. It’s a great deal for Detroit. Lundqvist waives bc he gets bought out. And you wouldn’t do this but you’d take on 2 years of MAF for a likely lesser return?.. I don’t understand the reasoning.. Also, MAF is the one who wouldn’t waive. It’s all a moot point bc NYR highly unlikely to ever make this trade.

Detroit makes this deal lmao. They’re getting a 1st round pick to waive some cap and Hank would waive cause he’s getting bought out anyway.

I just think it’s an outside the box idea to get rid of Hank’s full cap hit.

We're Stanley Cup favorites to be that aggressive for cap.

Buffalo ain't trading either. You know how rare it is to have a franchise Center and defenseman on your team lol.

Yeah I know it was just a late night thought like damn it’d be cool if we could get Eichel and Dahlin lmao, in reality Rangers probably wouldn’t do that deal either tho cause this team would be unsustainable

I don't think Detroit would buy him out unless the pick was higher. They have plenty of cap space this year. He only cost 5.5M in actual salary. They need a 2nd goalie for about 35-40 starts. When they've acquired players up in age they've allowed them to miss road-trips or stay with their families in these road cities instead of making the next game as incentive for them signing with Detroit---but I don't know if you can do that with the backup goalie. With the expansion draft and teams needing to get rid of 1B goalies there is a chance they've already got someone targeted too.

Detroit would have to agree to buy him out or Hank doesn’t waive his NMC. Every rumor indicates that Hank wants to be a starter on a competitive team(love ya Hank but I really don’t see where that’s happening)

Well then the Rangers are screwed. There aren't openings on competitive teams for soon to be 39 year goalies: not to mention, none but Colorado has that kind of cap room--but the Avs already have two goalies. Hank's skill level has decreased which shows in his numbers (and by the fact two young goalies passed him on the depth chart)---he's not low 2's GAA and 0.920 SV% anymore. He's 30-40 games as a backup 39 year old Hank.

If that's not what he'll agree to: Detroit would rather use the 8.5M to help out another team for a high pick. Choose from STL: Steen, CHI: Smith, Maatta, ANH: Backes, BUF: Hutton, MIN: Dubnyk, FLA: Straman, VAN: Beagle, Baertschi, Eriksson, or LA: Carter. Plenty of teams need cap space for a flat cap and internal ownership cap.

I wouldn’t necessarily say the Rangers are screwed, they could very easily just buy out Hank(most likely option anyway) and then use the 1st in a trade or pick their themselves.
