Pietrangelo

Created by: Rooney
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 22, 2020
Published: Sep. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I could genuinely see OTT making a push for Pietrangelo. They are by far the team in the best position to offer him a lucrative contract (something he obviously wants) and they aren't too far from his hometown of King City, Ontario.

With picks 3 & 5 in this years draft, OTT adds to what is already arguably the BEST prospect pool in the NHL. I think OTT will be a very good team a lot sooner than people think.

I am not saying I think OTT in the front-runner to land Pietrangelo, but I do think it's worth looking at. It would bring this team into contention that much faster.

Do you think Pietrangelo would consider signing in OTT or is this a pipe dream?

I mean, I could potentially see it happening, but if old Eugene wasn't willing to do this for the one-time face of the franchise, Karlsson, I don't think a year and a bit later he'd go crazy and all of the sudden do it.

Counter argument 1: Eugene Melnyk
Counter argument 2: King city is practically a suburb of another Ontario-based team
Counter argument 3: Buffalo is closer to King city
Counter argument 4: Detroit is closer to King city
Counter argument 5: To answer your question yes I think it's a pipe dream.

Your cheap owner Eugene Melnyk isn't giving Alex Pietrangelo 7 yrs x $10.0M he's a cheapskate and besides Ottawa would be the last team he'd sign with other then Detroit.

Did you forget who the owner is?

Maybe with a different owner, if he was 2 years younger and if the team was a year or two further along into the rebuild

AAV isnt the issue with AP in St Louis, he just wants a deal fronloaded with bonuses. Ottawa def cant give him that, Toronto definitely will and thats where hes signing

He probably wouldn't, but why would Ottawa want to? He's not going to be a top pair Dman for the full length of that deal. Sens would lucky to get two years as legitimate contenders with Petro before he starts declining

I don't know. Maybe, another hometown signing but Toronto would have to move Nylander. I don't see this working out in Toronto's favour.

Apparently Karlsson was offered 10m by Melynk but it was declined by Karlsson, so maybe these "cheap Melynk" comments are unjustified. Just because a player wants to leave via UFA doesn't make the owner cheap.
10m for Pietrangelo is an overpay. In todays market, he is not getting much over 8m from a good team. Pietrangelo/his agent and many Cap Friendly followers think because Pietrangelo allegedly turned down 8.5 by the Blues pre Covid, he's going to get more now, in the new flat cap league. I doubt if Pietrangelo gets much more than 8m...if that from a good team of his choice. If he wants chase a few more dollars, he might get from a team that he really doesn't want to go to.

Sure but now their team becomes more balanced on heavy contracts. It's closer to having 5 all-stars (+Nylander) and a whole bunch of ELCs and AHL calibre players. I think (and hope) it'd make them worse off.
Also, who would play nets? Marner?

Depends who they replace Andersen with, If they replace him with a cheaper Goalie then perhaps if they replace him with one at the same price of him or higher then forget it.

Well I didn't use an "=" at any point ,so no. Just stating both are worth less than USD and Melnyk is cheap

There's no comparison to Karlsson. San Jose had a great team, added Karlsson for nothing, and haven't made the playoffs since. In what world is that worth ten million dollars?

Looking at this team, if they give Anisimov away, they're just 2M above the salary floor, so everybody trying to say it won't work because the owner doesn't want to spend above the floor on a team that isn't ready? That's not a factor. They could easily sign PIetrangelo, move Anisimov and Zaitsev out, and end up below the floor.

Whether or not Pietrangelo wants to sign in Ottawa is up to Pietrangelo. Haters just wanna hate.

Ottawa has the cap space, is going to be good in a few years, and is exactly the kind of player they need. However, I doubt they use their limited actual money on something like this
