Description
i didnt realize how many bad contracts the canes have lol. so next year svechnikov is due a raise (probably going to be 8 x 3 bc of the escrow). so they need to have 7 million in space next year (and more bc Logan Brown is going to want a 3M contract probably). Between Reimer, and Dzingel, and Hamilton (yes the canes will have to lose Hamilton, but they'll still be amazing defensively: Slavin-Pesce, Skjei-Fleury, and Gardiner-Bean), theres going to be 13M in space. That's plenty to sign Svechnikov, Brown, and Bean/Nedeljkovic/Geekie

I think it’s a mistake to trade Staal but I’d take that from Detroit.

Dont sign Hall. Dont trade for Johnsson. Sign Hamilton and Svech. Keep Trochek.

Also canes dont really have a 'bad contract'. The only contract that is a bit high is Skjei. Staal is our Captain and the most defensively sound forward on our team, also wins every faceoff

Agreed. The whole Hall signing, and trading for Johnsson parts are what "conveniently" puts them into trouble this trouble. The only contract that is "bad" per se, is Nino.

I wonder if this was created by a Leafs fan...

    Edit: Yes...yes it was...

Teravainen is actually better defensively which says more about TT that staal, although everything else you say is very true. Staal is a little overpaid. It's not Loui Erikssen or Milan Lucic, but it's not exactly great

I agree TT is very good defensively, But IMHO Staal takes the cake. If im choosing one player to go 1 on 1 defensively with anyone in the league from our team, im taking Staal

None of this make sense imo. The canes really don’t have that many bad contracts. Yes nino and Skjei May be a mil over paid but you can live with that. The thing that puzzles me the most is u moved money out without trading someone like Gardiner or Reimer. those are players that you could move without actually hurting the team, unlike the moves you made

Jordan staal is not overpaid. Yes his offense hasn’t been great but everything else he does more than makes up for it. There would be plenty of teams that would ant him if the canes were casting him off for nothing

Staal would be a great add for DET, as it solidifies Top Cs between Larkin and Staal for a few years. DET needs it (obviously, duh).... but not sure how I feel about giving up 2 picks for a guy in his 30s.

I'm on the fence on this one...... I guess it matters if Yzerman is willing to give up 2 long shots at NHL players in those picks to give the youngins on DET some stability.

However, Staal waving his NMC to come to a dumpster fire to probably finish out his career is a roadblock.

This team is not great. Johnsson for a 2nd is an overpay. Shouldn't sign hall unless its for 1 year for carolina. no point in trading our 2c for a 3c that will become a 2c when we want to win now. Why are we trading our captain with a young team

TT is literally better in every defensive metric. I'm not saying Staal can't do defensive 1 on 1's (btw EASILY take Slavin to do a defensive 1 on 1 because he's just a god) but TT is, at least from an analytical perspective, the best defensive forward on the team. Obviously, Staal is also great, but I think it's an underappreciated quality in TT that I did want to mention
