I like the creativity to get him the extra year, but no need to send the 2nd round pick.

Leafs fans more then any other fans on here, ignore the other teams needs when putting together AGMs. shakes head

STOP trading Johnsson to the Hawks....he's a cap dump given our current roster and we aren't paying a dime for the overpaid winger. We also don't want a AHL defenseman in Rosen, we have a logjam of defenders in the bottom 4 so he'd never crack the lineup. I think Caggs is a good fit for the Leafs and will cost you only a 4th if you want him.

I may be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure you can’t sign a player to an 8 year contract unless they are on your reserve list prior to the trade deadline. So this trade does nothing on that front.

As for the Chicago trade, it’s trash, as are all trades between Chicago and Toronto that include Johnsson. It’s absolutely time to stop.

The most I would give up for Pietrangelo's rights is the 4th round pick from Vegas, seeing that Edmundson got a 5th

Only the team that had the player at the previous trade deadline can offer 8 yrs. Plus it's already been reported that he's going to free agency, so no point in any team trying to get exclusive negotiating rights IMO.

Okay so call it a "sign and trade". Same result.

Eh... I could see Vegas or Toronto throwing the blues a 4th to get that extra couple of days of exclusive negotiating time

If STL could sign him, they would just keep him.

Shouldn't even have to explain this, but the assumption is they're not re-signing him to keep him. Simply as a means of recouping a draft pick. If they are not interested in that, they will let him go to UFA.

The blues would then have to pay any signing bonus no? You know how the leafs love their signing bonuses in the first year of a contract.
