Going after some Cup chasers

Created by: NMAvsFan

Description
Seeing if the Avs can get a few guys who really want a Cup so they will accept shorter contracts. Probably not the best effort here but it's at least somewhat realistic.

Not a fan of trading Z inside the division, and honestly the Avs aren’t going to get a 1st rd pick for Jost in a trade. Borroweicki would be an interesting addition

Dadonov could be a sneaky good signing for Colorado, depending on the contract of course

Jost more likely a 2nd or 3rd, but NJD doesn’t need him.

I was just trying to think of teams that needed defensive help and maybe had the space.

I was just trying to find a team that had space and picks to trade. NJ just jumped to mind.

I wouldn't want him for more than a year or two - he's getting older but could give the Avs two really strong scoring lines.

He’s a very good passer and seems to make his line mates better. And he can play on either wing
I could see him being this year’s Nyquist, where he takes a more lucrative deal from a team with a big hole in their top six.

Maybe but his age is (read: should be) prohibitive. He's hitting UFA during a bad financial time and a bad age but some team might think he's the missing piece they need and overpay for him. But, maybe the Avs convince him to come for a few years and have a more legit shot at a Cup than he would pretty much anywhere else.

I think some fans are underestimating what value cap space is in the next couple of years. Nobody wants to say it but there is more than a reasonable chance the cap drops after many this season because gate revenue is so important.

Didn't they agree to a flat cap until revenues increase? I suppose it's something that could be revisited but I can't imagine the PA would approve lowering the cap. Also, with Seattle coming in next year, there will be a lot of money going out to all teams. That could mean the cap actually goes up but probably not for the reason you cited. I actually think that's what the teams who are imposing their own spending limits are waiting for, the fresh influx of cash from Seattle.
