The difference between Nylander and Palmieri is more than 8 spots in this draft.

An interesting deal with NJD. Wouldn’t be any salary retention though, since Nylander’s salary is higher than Palmieri’s.

But if you look, it's Pallmieri, getting to sign Petro with extra cap space and Rossi, who looks like stud.

Agree that the salary is what makes it tough. On the bright side for NJ, Nylander is only owed an average of 4.625M for the remaining 4 years of his contract (ironically, just above Palmieri's AAV). The fact the Nylander is only owed 4.625 should be enough for NJ to agree to retain 50% of Palmieri (and, that's only for one season). Leafs only make this trade if Rossi is available at 7 (which is very possible).

Nylander is a stud, and I am not sure Pietrangelo is the right piece. I would wait to see how slow the market is and see if we can find a bargain stop gap like Tanev on a short term deal. Liljegren, Sandin, Dermott, Lehtonen and whoever we get with the 15th pick are all going to be good players at some point.

That trade is just a placeholder to clear some cap. You can make it a 4th or 5th.

They only make this trade if their GM was a capfriendly user.

NYlander is good, but Leafs have too many of the same player. Watch the Cup finals and hard to imagine the leafs could handle that type of physical play.
Sandin will be good, Liljegren is very unnown, don't think he looked good when called up, Dermott is not better than a 5-6 D man, and Lehtonen is also unknown how he will play at the NHL level.

I think it depends on (a) Palmieri extension negotiations and (b) who is there at draft. If Sanderson or Drysdale make to #7, NJD probably takes one of them. If those guys are gone, and Rossi is there, this deal makes more sense.

Nylander is elite and still getting better, and the rest of your stuff is nonsense. Just a fan of another team trying to justify a clear win.

Nope Leafs Fan for a lot of years.
I would not say Nylander is Elite. He's skilled but, when he wants to be.
If they have all those D playing and continue to believe Nylander is one of there core guys,w e will be on here trying to figure out what's going on for a lot more years to come.
Those small D man will get killed back there.

Who's small? Liljegren is 6 feet and 200 lbs at 22, Dermott is the same and has a mean streak, Lehtonen is 6'1" I believe. Maybe look things up prior to saying stuff. For instance TO is one of the top 5 biggest teams.

6 feet and 200 is not a large D man at that level. and if Dermott you consider mena, you have issues man.
The only big mean D man Leafs have is Muzzin.
