yes he had a bad season but a bad season doesnt take a bad player from positive value to cap dump. Cause would Gaudreau be considered a dump too then lol haha

Flyers fan here. The difference is Ghost had a bad season in 2018-2019. 2019-2020 was a lot to do with injury. Two seasons of not the best production. I think before the flat cap situation, a team would love to get a chance at him and put him into a system that allows him to flourish and regain form, but with the flat cap, that contract isn't plausible for some teams unless they send a contract back. The Flyers probably prefer no contract in return. I believe it would have to be a team in the rebuilding phase that has cap space to burn that takes him in for a 3rd round pick or so. It's low risk, high reward at that point. I think Ghost can still be an effective player and provide a boost to a teams powerplay. I think he is garbage defensively so any team just needs to prepare for that. It'll hurt to see get to 35-45 points again with some other team, but at this point he just doesn't have a spot or future with Philly given the circumstances.

Coyotes do that trade if they trade OEL and the second round pick is made a 2020 2nd.

Two points:

1) Ghost is basically a cap dump bc of the 4.5m cap hit and 3yrs term for a very average at best 5 or 6d-man.
2) Coyotes are looking to shed and are in financial trouble, so you're better off looking at other potential trade partners.

A conditional late-round pick as a return for one of those teams gets it done IMO (I don't think PHI needs to attach anything to get rid of him, but also they shouldn't expect a return).

1) I retained 1.5mil on his contract, i know 3 mil per season for the next 3 years still sucks but (see point 2)
2) I believe that the Yotes are more than likely shedding cap by trading Hjalmarsson (more than likely retaining salary) Goligoski and Grabner (definitely retaining salary). Plus Kuemper sounds like he will be moved when his value is at its highest (right now).

You can say that yes, but I think the Flyers would prefer the cap space they would gain over the next two seasons (3mil per year), especially since Niskanen and Sanheim are free agents next year, and Myers is one this year. The team may also want to bring back Justin Braun on like a 1 year deal, or use some of the cap space they have this year to sign like Tyson Barrie on a 1 year like 5mil deal.

Great take! In the previous four seasons, he has scored 46, 39, 65, and 37 pts (guess which season he played with a real d-man and not someone with the skillset of Andrew MacDonald or Radko Gudas). If that is the production you expect out of an average 5 or 6, you're out of your mind. Further, he averages right at 20 mins and has a positive Expected +/- in EVERY season until this year when he was noticeably off following a knee procedure. Stop pretending he's Karl Alzner.

True, but he did seem to be a bit on the decline including last year. This year yes, injuries definitely hampered him, but he is Philly's 5th d-man when looking at their roster they can't afford a 4.5mil cap hit for their 5th d-man.
