Additional Details:
The Wild are going for a major culture change right now, clearly Guerin isn't too happy with their team. A guy like Guerin and a team like Minnesota, I think, would appreciate a physical leader who can still put up some goals. The price is an estimate; I'm not sure what teams would be paying for a 7 million dollar man like Lee right now.
MIN
  1. Lee, Anders
Additional Details:
After signing Hoffman, the flat cap (and roster size) would demand the sacrifice of our captain. I was debating between either Lee, Bailey or Eberle. Lee's performance these playoffs, and kind of in general, was a bit disappointing to me. Until his Game 5 heroics, so was Eberle, but his contract is a bargain for the point production. As for Bailey, his ability to sauce passes to Hoffman would be INDISPENSABLE on that line with Barzal. I see Hoffman as a 40+ goal scorer with 2 elite passers on his line.
2.
OTT
  1. Boychuk, Johnny
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Pure cap move. JB still has some fight left in him, and we would use our 2-ish million space to take back an equally bad contract to put on LTIR. The Senators get a tough, shutdown defenseman for their back-end who can whip those kids into shape, and we get a contract that we can throw on LTIR to save us some space. Throw in that third we acquired from Minnesota as a sweetener to take the 6 million.

I have a confession to make: Until these playoffs, I didn't watch every Isles game. I DID watch them occasionally, but since Round 2 i've started watching every one; a trend I intend to continue starting next season. With the knowledge of actually WATCHING the team I love in hand, here's what I would do this offseason.

Ladd - LTIR. His knees are titanium, and he's getting old. I'd imagine he retires or gets buried on Robidas Island starting next season.

Kuhnhackl - If he takes a cheap deal, we can happily keep him around in the same healthy scratch type role we've had him in for the last few years. He's a solid guy and I like his play.

Hoffman - We NEED goal scoring. That was supposed to be Panarin, but we were unable to acquire him. A guy like Hoffman would thrive on a line with 2 elite passers, and if he takes a $8,000,000-ish deal, we can have him be the bulwark of the team. I'd imagine Trotz can turn his already two-way game into an even more solidly defensive guy while being our dedicated first-line sniper. I don't care how you get him here, Lou, but get him here.

(edit: spacing)

Tbh I think Pulock gets 6.5 million. He is your best defenceman and he will be paid as such.

Don't you think you could get a 1st for Lee though? I feel like someone would give it to you.

Pelech is our best defenseman.

I don't think the Isles would trade Lee he brings 25-30 goals per season and is the captain of the team. They not foing to let go of two captains in a three year span

if that was 5 years pulock wants 6, but since it has the term the wage works inversely. Honestly don't trade lee, Ebs or bailey is the piece to move. If the price is right trade lee but he is the captain and he exudes the barry trotz isles like no other on the team

Um no. Pulock 10 goals and 35 points in 68 games this year with a +8 rating and Pelech 9 points in 38 games with a +4 rating. Pelech was better defensively in the playoffs this year but Pulock is definitely the better player overall

Like I said in the post, I think Bailey just would add too much to a Hoffman line to be the piece to trade. Eberle, I could trade. Keeping Lee would be fine, I just personally felt he was the odd man out after watching him play and reading into it a bit. Trading captains sucks, but hockey is a business.

You don't watch the Islanders. When Pelech is out, we suffer immensely. When Pulock is out, we slot someone in and it's not too bad. Pelech is almost like a second goalie, and anyone from Isles Nation would agree he is our best defensemen, and one of our best players.

For sure, if there's a bad contract out the bunch it's him

Pelech may be the better defensive guy I'm not arguing that, but what I'm saying is Pulock is the better overall player. You likely suffer more when Pelech is out because you don't have his solid defensive play, but Pulock is easily one of the best two way defenceman in the game.

Like what I'm saying is I would happily trade Nylander for Pulock but even if Pelech was a right shot defenceman I wouldn't trade Nylander for him.

Ok.... that's not how hockey works though. Rielly is Leafs best Dman, but Leafs have similar Dmen that can somewhat fill his void if he gets hurt. Muzzin on the other hand creates a huge hole if he's out. Doesn't make him the better player (although it's fairly close).

Pulock is a $7M dman on a long term deal.

Also Hoffman is a horrible defensive player. He's not a strong 5v5 player, but deadly on the PP.

Toews is going to get more than 5 million as a UFA next season. Wouldn’t be smart to sign him for 1 year. Trade Leddy and sign him for 4+ years

Pulock has played every game the last two years. Pelech needs pulock a lot more than pulock needs pelech

Lee makes no sense for MN. They already have a bazillion (give or take) wings on the team already. He's a fine player, but an awful fit with MN.

I am happy you aren't the GM in TO. Pulock is good but the system he plays in emphasizes his strengths while minimizing his weaknesses. He's a very good player but I am not sure he's what TO needs, also Nylander is an elite offensive player, trading one of those and you'll just be complaining about them not having enough offence.

Let's be honest here, you believe every single Islander is better than every leaf.
