Value Breakdown:
-Top 6 stopgap C
-Young bottom 6 C w/ middle 6 potential
-Elite winger prospect
-D prospect with Top 4 potential
-1st round pick
-2nd round pick with high potential to be a 1st

Comparable Trade: Erik Karlsson (elite defenseman vs elite center)
Strome = Tierney
Howden = Demelo
Kravtsov > Norris
Jones > Balcers
1 2nd (conditions aside) < 2 2nds
1st = 1st

Roughly the same value less pick capital but better player/prospects involved. Could debate Barkov deserves more because of an extra year on his contract, but this is at least in the ballpark...

Can't see Vegas wanting all that additional cap. If Smith wants to stay on a good team as opposed to poor one, he can block any trade with his M NTC

Remove Howden, Jones, and both picks and insert one of Miller or Nils and the 1OA and then they will think about it

Value breakdown: give the first overall, zibby, or kakko if you want it to happen.

Do you really think Florida would be more inclined for a 27 year old C for Barkov over young pieces? Sounds like they would be rebuilding if Barkov is out so why swap similar players? What does that accomplish for them?

I think that is the kind of package that they get once they’ve been able to put an extension in front of him. Not a ton that’s exciting in this package that’s worth forgoing that opportunity

Honestly that is just not going to do it. If FLA is trading a 25yr old 1C with 2 yrs remaining they are in full rebuild mode and need something of elite appeal, and won’t be taking back more salary than they are giving. It starts with 1OA and Kakko and probably another 1st. A package that arguably doesn’t have even one 1st line forward or 1 too 10 pick isn’t going to do it.

This is terrible for vegas. Give up the young guy that looked great in the playoffs, on a cheap contract and a first?

No thanks

First off, FL won't want strome, they will want Chytil. they will prob ask for Nils Lundkvist as well. Second, Barkov has 2 years left on his deal, NY doesn't need to trade their future if he's going to hit FA. The future of this team (Lafreniere, Kravtsov, Miller and Lundkvist) hasn't even hit the ice yet. It would just make more sense to bide their time.

That Vegas trade would hinge on some Fleury/Statsny moves. And in regards to Smith, it's a 10 team trade list so it's not entirely out of the question...

That's incredibly unrealistic. If you look at players roughly in the same category who have been moved in recent memory (Stone, Karlsson, O'Reilly etc.) there has been no assets of that caliber involved. Yes Barkov may require slightly more considering he has 1 more year on his contract, however that is not worth those kind of assets...

If their trading Barkov, they would have zero NHL centers under contract so that's why I included Strome...

That's a little dramatic, the late 1st is well worth the upgrade from a good but unproven young guy to an elite puck mover and point producer who are roughly the same age. I do understand the cap concerns though...

One of the top two way centers in the league at a great cap hit. If you’re not overpaying and giving Florida what they want then you’re not getting him. Not unrealistic at all just not what Rangers are willing to pay, which is fine they just won’t get him.

Right, so see what i said about this being a package that might get the player after the panthers have had a chance to put an extension in front of him? I still think it’s light, but I wouldn’t tell anyone they’re being unrealistic after proposing this package for a barkov that just turned 25, and has two years left on his deal.

That’s fine but frankly they will lose him in UFA for nothing if they’re expecting assets that most teams don’t have and the the teams that do will not be putting them on the table...

Who says they will lose him? That’s an assumption and can be said about anyone in the league. The fact is that you don’t trade one of the best two way players in the league unless you are overpaid to do so. There is no indication Barkov wants to leave..he loves it in Florida but wants to win, like every other player in the league.
