Defence wins championships

Created by: deleted_x_t_213213
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 22, 2020
Published: Sep. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Will never ever happen and the trades won't please Matthews but this is a contending team. I thought alot about whether leafs should aquire Hart or Samsonov so I went with Hart because of his playoff experience. Giving up alot for the chance at multiple cups. If the cap goes up to 84 in 2021 should be able to keep Hyman and Hart. This team truly is Matthews and he'd be the new captain. Given the cap situation I don't know how much better I can make this team, I think the trades are fair. Less offence but more defence.

You are a troll

In four seasons Marner has never finished top ten in scoring, has hit 70 points just once, never had a 30 goal season, or a single Hart trophy vote. He's a star player and I'm not disrespecting him. Elite is a level Marner hasn't hit yet (it's not a certainty he does), and referring to him as such cheapens the word itself.

What a load of ****.

Like when I said name 10 23 year old players who have a 90 point season and was on pace for 90 this past season. To which you said he has one 70 point season. Most players never score 70 points.

Three of his four seasons have been below 70 points. In his one 90+ season he still finished outside the top ten in scoring. During his "on pace for 90" season this year he finished tied for 18th. I think you're just being overly generous with the use of word elite. Not every star player (and Marner absolutely is a star) is elite. Elite means best of the best, not just among the best.

As for naming all the 23 year olds who have hit 90 points before, you can do your own research on that. I just don't care enough, and honestly don't feel it's a compelling argument. Rob Brown is an example of a guy who had over 100 points when he was 20, but even his own mother wouldn't call him elite.
