Strongly disagree russell and chiasson have negative value useful players. Teams with internal caps which will be half the league will really like russell at 1.5 he’s easily worth more than that. Chiasson is a good vet that’s capable of playing on any teams top unit pp.

Strongly disagree that anyone will "Really like Russell" at any point. He is, quite literally, one of the worst defenceman in the league by every metric available. One of the few that I can find that are actually worse? Nikita Zaitsev.

I suppose Ottawa might like one more run at 1OA, so maybe you take those two and put them on the top pairing. That'd be fun...

Lol I don’t know why people think he’s sooo bad. He’s capable of 15-16 minutes a night will be among league leaders in block shots. I’d rather keep him.

tears of joy He wouldn't have to block shots if he was good at the other 99% of things that hockey players do. His possession stats are absolutely horrendous.

Why would the Leafs Trade Johnsson for Yakimov? He's a 25 year old average KHL player with 1 NHL game experience. That does nothing for the Leafs.

Teams with internal caps have loads of better players available than Russell and Chiasson. Bubble players making more than the league min are not valuable. Coupled with the fact Edmonton has a big need to cut salary so they can improve. Improve over both these below average players, that is the definition of negative value.

You know how almost always has high numbers of blocked shots? Defenceman who can't do anything but stand in front of their own net. Russell, Larsson, Gudbranson, etc. ****ty defenceman all of them.

Rather keep Neal, turris has more yrs left on his contract Edmonton gains nothing in that trade all it does is set us back another yr waiting for that contract to end.

Russel is only owed 1.5 million. For that price put him as bottom pairing or 7th D. Ottawa plays at the cap floor because they cannot afford the ceiling. In years like this they need the salary to be below the floor the only way you can do that is to take on a player with lotts of cap hit but not much salary.

They can actually afford the ceiling, Melnyk just won't open the wallet until they're competitive (Apparently).

They actually won't have any problem hitting the floor after resigning their own RFA's though, so I'm not sure why they'd do this. If you want someone to take a bad player from you and give you cap relief, give them some reason to help you out (Not a mediocre prospect like Maksimov).

Cap dump. AJ doesn't have any value with his current contract.

That was pre covid. 17 out of 31 owners are hard up for cash right now.

I love how some EDM fans are absolutely confident that Russell has value, but hes literally the first player shot into the sun desperate for cap space on every ACGM

He’s a solid depth guy worth more than 1.5 million since that’s the number most of the league will care more about but oilers don’t have any issue spending to the cap the only number that matters to them is the 4 million. It is what it is likely be a casualty but I’m fairly certain he will become more missed than giving credit for.
