Shake Up With Vegas

Description
Think this will be a good shake up for both teams that haven't done so well since both went to the finals 2 years ago. Maybe some extras are added somewhere but not much.

Kuznetsov for Karlsson - VGK gets elite playmaker while Caps get a better 2 way player. Both players haven't lived up to their 2018 season so a change of scenery could work.

Oshie for Marchessault - A lot analytics written after VGK playoff exit saying that VGK drives possession very well but don't have the net front presence to bash in rebounds, tips, or cause havoc in the crease. Oshie is one of the best in the league at that. Caps get some speed for their top 6.

Orlov for Schmidt - Both extremely underrated defensemen. Orlov can play both left and right side, which VGK needs because basically all their dmen are LHD. Caps get a player that always played very well with Carlson.

$6M to find extra F and D, then get back up goalie (though it should be Vanecek).

It’s not terrible, I actually wouldn’t mind the shakeup, Just not sure how Oshie’s contract looks in 3 years when he’s 36

He was on pace for 31g, 58p this year. And he's already 33. So while I agree with you, and I think WSH adds, like, a 2nd and Lucas Johansen to balance Oshie's age, I also think there's a pretty decent chance that Oshie's game, built on courage and hand-eye coordination more than speed, ages like a fine wine.

Yeah I understand that. I ate $1M on Oshie to maybe help that a bit. Maybe they can eat more?

It’s not the contract now like I said. I’m fine paying that price for the next 3 years. It’s an interesting move to say the least. I wouldn’t be opposed to trying it with Statsny instead of Karlsson and us adding a prospect like Mozorov and a pick.

Not so much his game as his health. He's had several injuries over the last couple of years. Can he hold up physically through the end of that contract? Several concussions already, if he takes one more man...I dunno I'd be seriously considering retirement if I were him.

I'm not sure that's as tempting. Kuznetsov for Karlsson is a good shakeup, and somewhat fair if Kuznetsov playing the 2018 playoffs on a 40 goal pace balances Karlsson's 40 goal regular season in 2018. Orlov for Schmidt is pretty even. It sounds like we're hung up on the Marchessault for Oshie part, and maybe there isn't something WSH can add to balance that.* It's basically just an old, tough, net-front 30 goal scorer who improves his teammates' shooting percentage when he's screening the goalie for a younger, smooth-skating 30 goal scorer.

Could see Oshie for Stastny being a win-win, without any retention or balancing, if VGK has other guys who can play 2C behind Kuznetsov/Karlsson. Stephenson looked okay for a minute, but I'm not sure if he's the answer they want to go with, long term, even to add an extra 30 goal wing who upgrades their power play. So that takes a follow-up trade on Vegas' side, or moving up a prospect.

*Siegenthaler? Fehervary? Does Vegas want a decent young defensive or offensive defenseman?
