It’s not the contract now like I said. I’m fine paying that price for the next 3 years. It’s an interesting move to say the least. I wouldn’t be opposed to trying it with Statsny instead of Karlsson and us adding a prospect like Mozorov and a pick.
I'm not sure that's as tempting. Kuznetsov for Karlsson is a good shakeup, and somewhat fair if Kuznetsov playing the 2018 playoffs on a 40 goal pace balances Karlsson's 40 goal regular season in 2018. Orlov for Schmidt is pretty even. It sounds like we're hung up on the Marchessault for Oshie part, and maybe there isn't something WSH can add to balance that.* It's basically just an old, tough, net-front 30 goal scorer who improves his teammates' shooting percentage when he's screening the goalie for a younger, smooth-skating 30 goal scorer.
Could see Oshie for Stastny being a win-win, without any retention or balancing, if VGK has other guys who can play 2C behind Kuznetsov/Karlsson. Stephenson looked okay for a minute, but I'm not sure if he's the answer they want to go with, long term, even to add an extra 30 goal wing who upgrades their power play. So that takes a follow-up trade on Vegas' side, or moving up a prospect.
*Siegenthaler? Fehervary? Does Vegas want a decent young defensive or offensive defenseman?
