Description
Just thinking a little bit differently. Maybe I'm way off base, but I'm sure you'll yell me. Its all good this is just for fun. Curious to hear thoughts from BOTH fan bases. My understanding of OTT opinion on Tierney is that he's a #3C and nothing more. Just what I've been seeing on here lately...that's all. Hawks kinda need a #3C because Strome's a true a #2C.

For anyone who doesn't really know Strome...he's scored 80 points in 95 games as a Hawks centerman. True Fact....for a truly unknown reason and I think the 2nd dumbest move the Hawks have ever made behind trying Patrick Kane at center for half a season....Strome was sent to the wing. So his point totals after Feb 1 (or lack of) are all because he was playing wing. He's a TRUE center. Always played there since he was a kid and should always be there.

When Shaw's playing he'd be a great help to mentor all the younger players OTT has BOTH on the ice and off. He'll come to their defense as well. It'll also save Melnyk a lot of money which is huge to him. Maybe not to people on here, but it is to him.

Lastly for OTT fans...and I've been saying this in general, but ESPECIALLY in the world we live in today North Dakota's first 12 games are cancelled....and let's be real here....the best case scenario is that they play a shortened season. So guys like Bernard-Docker and even Pinto will be thinking to themselves if they want to control their own destiny for a path to the life long dream of being an NHLer.......or fall some where in line the next 11 draft picks OTT will have in the 1st and 2nd rounds...and existing stocked farm system. What I'm saying is...turn your draft capital into something so you're not telling these guys to walk for free.

Additional Details:
By acquiring Shaw, Melnyk saves $2,150,000 when compared to what Shaw's cap hit is. I have a feeling that Melnyk likes $2,150,000. Shaw might be LTIR, but I'd prefer to not think that way.

I'd be down if we miss out on Byfield at #3 and pick Stutzle. Strome is a guy I think would fit nicely on a 1-2 switcheroo centre tandem. Specially if Logan Brown doesn't pan out next year.

You are right in Tierney being a true #3C and a #2C in a pinch. He could cost upward to 3.5 to 4. Guy put up 40 pts (almost) without PP time on a terrible Ottawa team.

You are also right in that Ottawa is looking to poach a young, NHL ready, forward. I like the deal, personally.

That's way more than I'd be comfortable giving up for Strome imo. I like him, but he's not a number 1, and I have faith enough in Josh Norris becoming a strong 2C that I don't think I'd pay this price to get a 2C, at least not Strome anyway.

I think there would be some merit to Tierney to Chicago though. He's a good PK centre, and he's money in the bank for 40+ points a season.

Also I know you've been trying to will Pinto Leaving into existence, but I really think there's nothing doing there. I think you're seriously overestimating how much most young hockey players are willing to rock the boat. Plus there's the fact that all these US hockey kids know each other and would want to play together.

Thats fair. Its just that we're seeing it more and more...kids leaving that is. Hawks signed two this year alone. I think for all teams, but especially OTT...they should be planning as much around this as they would Seattle. Alot or a little you decide.

I don't like giving the 2 picks at 28 and 33. One of them would be fine to me and a later one but not back to back. I like Strome actually and think he could be a decent player so I would be intersted. Maybe not at the exact price you put something along those lines.

I would like to point out though that you're right, Melnyuk loves to 'save' money more than anything and trades should take that into account sadly. However, your deal doesn't actually save any real dollars. I think it's fair to say that Strome will get more AAV than Tierney on their next contracts. So right there, Sens are paying more. Then add in the Shaw contract and despite his actually salary less than his AAV, the sens are paying the remaining salary plus Strome's new contract
Personally, I do not like Shaw and wouldn't want him on the Sens lol. So I'd be happy with him not included anyway

I like it but it's probably an over pay by the Sens

I probably need to clarify a bit. Shaw's Salary is less than his cap hit. TRUE that EACH Strome and Tierny will make X or Y amounts, BUT unless one of them gets traded midway in the contract....then ultimately Melnyk will pay the full amount. Where as for Shaw, MTL and CHI already paid the premiums and it's a guarantee that he'll save $2,150,000. That's what I meant.

***EDIT*** Also...Tierney is arb eligible where Strome is not. Strome doesn't have as much of a say in his next contract as Tierney does...even if it's only a little bit of a difference.

Totally cool with shipping Tierney

Not cool with trading those 2 high picks. Other 2nds, and taking bad cap are on the table, but I would decline that offer from OTTs perspective
