Good list, don't understand Rantanen and Ehlers though

Would be interested to know why you think Pettersson and Ehlers are overrated. Maybe even Rantanen, Landeskog and Ekblad. Agreed for Nurse, Toews, Binnington and the Leafs.

Tavares nearly won the rocket richard last year, and this year despite a broken hand/oblique injury/general injury problems was still point per game. His contract is a lot though, he'd better perform otherwise yeah, he's overpaid/overrated. But to this point, as a leaf, I'd say he's met expectations

Reilly had injury problems this year but last year at 25 he was the best 5v5 offensive defenseman in the league. If we give him a good d partner (as opposed to literal boat anchors) he'll be OP as hell, and at $5M AAV it's a steal

Freddy, yeah he's overrated

I'd be kind of interested to see of a list of top pair Dman most frequent D partners over the last 3 or 4 years and see where Rielly ranks on that list compared to others.

I don't think too many 22-24 min/night dman out there would have much worse partners then he's had.

Could be a few, but I doubt there would be more than 5.

Provorov was playing 24 mins a night with Andrew MacDonald as his main partner. I think you're underestimating the stupidity of hockey guys.

Hunwick, Polak, Zaitsev, 36-38 year old ron hainsey, Cody Ceci - the ONLY remotely good partner he had was hainsey, and consequently that was when he was a frontrunner for the norris with 20G 52A

Based on contracts or their perception amongst fans? I think you mean the latter, but I just want to know. Answers depend on context. Like for example: I don't think Landeskog is as good as some make him out to be...but I also think he's got a good contract for where people value him.

if it was contract, he would add carey price and Bobrovsky

There could definitely be a couple out there that rival Rielly's partners, but I would bet there would not be many.

In what world is Pettersson overrated... He is one of the most underrated players in the league...

Some of these I agree with (Rantanen, Reilly, Nurse)

Hainsey matched up pretty well with Rielly, as he was strong at limiting zone entries (a Rielly weakness), and obviously never strayed to far into off zone, but Boston feasted in that pairing in the playoffs, as they knew Hainsey constantly deferred (passed to Rielly) so they dumped it into Hainsey's corner, put a man on Rielly and forced Hainsey to move the puck, which 90% of the time resulted in a turnover.

Zaitsev/Ceci/Hunwick all deferred to Rielly as well, but did not have any strengths to compliment Rielly, so they were doomed to fail.

While he may not be overrated. I dont think you can call him underrated. Calder winner, is on every "only three ELCs" acgm on cap friendly. Constantly talked about in all the hockey media.

Forsberg is a 30+ goal, 65+ point forward that makes $6m. Not really sure what's overrated about that. He's overvalued by Preds fans probably, but that's because he is their best forward -- not every team has the luxury of PPG forwards.

And Giroux was one of the best forwards in the NHL for many years (I can't remember the stat but he had I think the 4th most points over a 10 year stretch) -- he's definitely slowing down now and not as good as he once was, but he's almost 33 so that happens.

As far as Stamkos and Tavares, they both scored 45+ goals last season - I don't really see how they can be overrated (although Tavares is overpaid). Tavares had a down year this year, but was still nearly a PPG player. And Stamkos was on pace for 95 points - he's had a bunch of injuries too, so being able to come back and still put up great goal and point totals is extremely impressive.

And I don't know if you can really overrate a 21 year old, near PPG number 1 center. Pettersson was on pace for 33 goals and 80 points in only his second season.

I can see an argument for the rest.

Stamkos had 29 goals and 66 points in 57 games this season...
