what would it take for this trade, the wings have money to spend, I really think they should stay out of the big name free agent market for another year or two.

The Wings see it as this: we’re a rebuilding team, so 3rd and 4th round picks aren’t for trade. Neal is a cap dump, and Puljujarvi isn’t enough for us to take him on. We’d need the 2020 1st that Edmonton isn’t going to trade, or more significant compensation. Just because we have the cap space doesn’t mean we need to do any teams favours, especially because there’s a line of other teams looking to dump bad contracts.

I don't think red wings have a chance at getting Pietro unless they hand him like a 7X11 which is ridiculous I know. I know Red Wings have shown interest in Markstrom but I think he would be a mistake to sign. Also, that is a masssssive overpayment on red wings end to take on Neal's terrible contract. Red Wings don't need to spend money just because we have it. That's what screwed us with Ken Holland...

Yeah i could see more added for taking on neal, and i agree on staying away from big name free agents, we need to get a few more high end draft picks, the other i would do if the wings did the neal trade would be to buy neal out, or you hold him for the expansion draft the following next year.

You’re correct about Mantha. It’s rumored, yes just rumored, that Yzerman is looking at trying to sign Markstrom. I’m on the same page as you on Petro. Is there any circumstance where if you were Yzerman would you trade the 4OA? Don’t freak out, it’s just a hypothetical question.

If he liked a player that he knew he could get later in the draft like at 5-10 then ya I could see him trading back and nabbing some extra picks/prospects with it, but I still doubt it because I think he's high on perfetti and wants him at #4

4OA for Sergachev, you probably think about it. But ultimately no. Use the pick, keep building.

I’m not opposed to spending money on goaltending, I’d be happy to have Markström. Being much stronger in net would be very beneficial to helping the team develop in front, and buy us more time to figure out a future #1 hopefully thru draft and development.

I don't think that Yzerman is going to part with the pick. Top 4 OA is a big deal. If you look at the EL Draft history the top four always have an almost immediate impact on the team that makes that pick. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/

If most immediate impact then hopefully they draft Marco Rossi so trend continues.

It would have to be something special, I would consider it for a bunch of different scenarios. If say stutzle and byfield are both gone and we trade back to 8 with buffalo and acquire buffalo 2nd and one of Matias Samuelson or Ryan Johnson, then take askarov at 8?

If it's just straight up trading the 4th pick for something it would have to be a ridiculously overpay. Sergechev + cirelli + prospect type of deal

I think if we're at 4, and Byfield and Stuzle were gone, (still a pipedream OTT does something crazy at 3 to leave us one of those two), if Rossi/Raymond/Perfetti/Drysdale were still there trading back a spot or two to gain more picks would be ok. As long as we get one of the 'top rated' prospects everyone debates in that range, gain assets to move back is only a good thing.

About Mantha - I saw on the interwebs (so it has to be true), that Mantha's deal was 5-6 years, at 5.5-6M range. But Yzerman keeps his cards so tight to his chest, I don't really believe any 'rumors' out there when it comes to wings. If Yzerman gets Mantha 5-6years at under 6M, hes a genius. I really expected him at an AAV more than Larkin (6.1M), because of the premium on goal scoring.

About Puljujärvi - I remember Yzerman shipping out Drouin from TB because he was whining (was it holding out?) because it sounded like Drouin wanted more ice time or something than what he was deserving.

So I don't think Yzerman is going to bring someone like that into a team of his. He's big on "everyone works for ice time". You get what you deserve.
