If you give a long term deal to Hugues... he should cost little less IMO.
Or sign him 2 years @ 6M and see... but all look good soon as you get rid of Ericksson

Very intriguing any time you can add someone like Reilly.

Not sure what long term deals will look like for Petey and Hughes, but I think earmarking $20m for them is probably in the range.

I'll assume both Petey and Hughes want to sign a contract after playing another full season so as to maximize their big contract. I think both will want 8 years which is honestly the best move for Vancouver too. Assuming there are 82 games in the 2020-2021 season, I see Petey getting between 80-90 points and Hughes 60-70. Pettersson will command more since he's your top line center and your best player. That said here is my prediction:

    Pettersson: 8 years, 11 mil per (8x11)
    Hughes: 8 years, 9.5 mil per (8x9.5)

But I could easily see Hughes getting north of 10 mil and Pettersson could command close to 12

I think the best comparable for Pettersson is actually Eichel. Pettersson has been slightly healthier and slightly more productive at the same point in their careers. If Pettersson wanted the same cap hit % as Eichel, he would end up above 10.5M, but he could reasonably ask for more than that.

Chabot is probably the best comparable for Hughes, but I would expect him to get more as well.
