The underrated Toews

Created by: Anus_McLeod
Team: 2020-21 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 18, 2020
Published: Sep. 23, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It's not likely to happen, but figured I'd throw it out there anyway. With Barzal and Pulock, is it possible the Isles just have to throw their hands in the air and let Toews go in such a scenario? They could probably make it work, but the question is would it be worth it.

This doesn't even have to be Colorado specific. Just wondering if folks think Toews can be had via os. He's worth a second and decent money.

I think the isles would retain on Leddy before letting toews go. He’s arguably more valuable than pulock

I mean Seattle will gladly take him a year after so they'd love this.

Why would they trade him. Who’s going to carry mayfield?

Toews would be the easiest of the 3 to let go. All the "experts" say dont except an offer sheet though. GMs are just to scared to

It does not work. Give up on it. B’s need an LD1. He is not. They are set at the rest of the D. Not enough of an upgrade over what they have to bring in cap hit and take cap space away from areas that DO need to be fixed.

The ones that think it’s ok think Grizz is an LD1. He isn’t. They are delusional.

Good info. I think they will want to try and keep his AAV low. Perhaps they figure it out and keep him. This certainly makes their lives more difficult if nothing else.

Isles dont have money to play around with. Barzal and Pulock will eat up all of their cap including the 10% offseason buffer

And they can trade Leddy with retained salary. Bailey/cizikas can be moved as well

That's totally fine. A second for a year of a really good player is worth it.

I would keep toews over pulock tbh , id sign him to a 7-8 year deal @ 5 mill per.

Toews is a great Dman, but with the Avs having both Byram and Girard they don't have any need for more LHD. They really only need a defensively strong bottom 4 RHD and prospects that will be ready in 2-4 years on the back end.

I think its a fun idea to target players you like though

it takes 2 teams to make a trade. Cant force a team to take them. They also can wait to make the Islanders sweat. The league knows NYI is in cap hell. None of those guys are 'cant miss' players. The league can easily wait till after the Free agency rush to circle back on them.

They were looking at Hjalmarsson. Toews would be a short term play as well. He'd go to Seattle or walk after a couple years. Well worth a 2nd (imo).

No , you can’t force a team to take a player - but I’d bet if bailey was put on the market he’d have many suitors. Recency bias would play a factor. Led the isles in scoring during the playoffs.

Is it because both picks are 2020 or that you feel he's being overvalued?

Regardless of value in the deal, I think Graves would actually be a very solid pickup for DET -- Graves, Seider, Hronek, Cholowski is the start of a young and potentially very good defensive core. And then add one of Johansson or McIsaac if either of them pan out (or even Drysdale if they select him) and the DET defensive core looks solid for the future.

Theirs definitely a chance someone takes him but i dont see teams needing to get that trade done this instant with someone like Hoffman out there

Hoffman is going to want over 6 mill and he’s overrated.

with Covid cap he wont get that much more even though he did earn more. People could say Bailey is over rated. The only opinion that matters there is the GMs

detroit would take that but yeah maybe want to push the picks to different drafts. If boston loses chara and krug they could do a deal like Cole. He can play both sides and kick in a little offense. Zboril could be a pro but he is never going to live up to that draft spot.

There will be a team that overpays Hoffman , it always happens.

Some GMs will think bailey is overrated, others will look at a guy who played a huge role in his team making the ECF, almost at a point per game pace and on a fair contract.

I think both get carried by the other equally. They both have their absolutely disgusting moments
