No we don't really need VIrtanen. Montour has more value

VAN can't afford Montour. The only reason they are looking to move Virtanen is because he can get at least 2.75-3mill through arbitration which VAN does not want to pay. Montour is not going to sign cheap either.

What are you talking about? Virtanen is literally the prototypical player Buffalo needs

Montour is not as defensively sound to play with Hughes so it doesn't make sense for VAN either. They can just target a guy like Cernak out of Tampa Bay.

Yes Montour is, he was one of the most defensively sound players in both Anaheim and Buffalo. Idk who youre thinking of. Montour is an analytical darling

Then why don't the Sabres keep him and move Risto? they sure could use a guy like him to play with Dahlin.

could, the negative perception of Risto makes him harder to move for a piece that helps Buffalo immediately

Because apparently the Sabres management views risto as a core piece

I don’t necessarily think Hughes needs a purely defensive partner. He’s really solid in his own zone and controls the puck so much that when he’s on the ice they aren’t defending very often.

I'd trade Montour for Virtanen I think both teams win but lets be truthful neither player is a game changer - Montour is the RD I want to trade first generally, it's not because he's worse out of Risto, Joki, Miller it's just that he's pretty good all around but outstanding at nothing while Risto may have terrible advanced stats but he's about the only physicality we have on the Sabres, Joki is young enough that the hope is he takes a step to being a solid first pair, and Miller has some very high level skills and you hope one day his play matches his skills.

I can agree with this, Virtanen won’t come in and be a superstar either. But he will be physical and can put up some nice goal totals/drive play without too much help.

On the Sabres Virtanen will probably be 2nd line RW but on a good team he's playing 3rd line but I agree the Sabres could use physical players and Montour playing the left side for us is a waste to me.
